The Dubna International University of Nature, Society and Man is located in the Dubna science city near Moscow, located between the Volga, Dubna and Sestra rivers, 120 km north of the capital. The city of Dubna borders on the Kimrsky and Konakovsky districts of the Tver region and occupies a favorable geographical position, located on the railway (Dubna - Moscow), water (Volzhskaya) and automobile (Dmitrovskoye shosse) highways.

Dubna - one of the youngest and most intensively developing cities in the Moscow region - has an ancient history, with its roots stretching back centuries.

He founded Dubna in the XIII century Yuri Dolgoruky. In those distant times there was a customs outpost: all goods following the trade route from Moscow to the Upper Volga were subjected to a thorough search. However (according to the annals) in 1216 the settlement was burned down by the Novgorodians. Only two centuries later, the village of Gorodishche and the village of Ivankovo arose on the lands of the interfluve. The confluence of the Volga and Dubna, called the Ratminskaya Rifleman, has long been honored by noble persons. For a long time, the famous historian V.N. Tatishchev lived in his estate of Ratmino, then the princes Vyazemsky acquired his estate, which significantly changed the appearance of the estate, which, unfortunately, has not survived to this day.

Major transformations of the character of the area occurred in the 30s of the XX century. The channel of the canal connecting the Moscow River and the Volga was laid, the Ivankovo reservoir and the first Volga hydroelectric power station, Ivankovskaya, appeared. With the end of the construction of hydraulic structures, the village of Bolshaya Volga, now one of the districts of Dubna, began to grow. Along with the construction of the canal named after Moscow, the creation of a machine-building plant was also included in the plan for the industrialization of the USSR, the place for which (the left-bank part of present-day Dubna) was chosen by aircraft designer A.N. Tupolev. And in the right bank, at the choice of I.V. Kurchatov, in the post-war years, nuclear-physical laboratories began to be created, which became the basis of the future world famous international scientific center - the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. Dubna received its official status in 1956.

Basic research in the field of nuclear physics, as well as high-tech developments of enterprises of the military-industrial complex, formed the basis of Dubna's activities throughout its history. This circumstance became decisive in the creation of the intellectual appearance of the city. Thousands of talented, initiative and creative people, high-class specialists who were passionate about original ideas came to work in Dubna. It was here that the "best brains" of the country were concentrated. Their positive ambition, susceptibility to new ideas, democracy, openness, the desire for self-assertion were transmitted to the entire city community, which played a major role in the formation of the high educational potential of the city's population. Outstanding scientists lived, worked, worked in Dubna: N.N. Bogolyubov, D.I. Blokhintsev, A.Ya. Bereznyak, B.M. Pontecorvo, G.N. Flerov, I.M. Frank and many others.

For more than fifty years, during which scientists from many countries of the world have been fruitfully cooperating in Dubna, they have accommodated many significant events. Over the years, about 50 scientific discoveries have been made in Dubna, included in the annals of scientific history. Scientific successes not only brought Dubna worldwide fame, but also perpetuated it - in the periodic table of D.I. Mendeleev there is an element discovered in Dubna, whose name is "Dubniy." Dubnensky Machine-Building Plant and MKB "Rainbow" gave the country a whole series of aircraft - from simple hydroplanes to super-modern "SU-29." The Space Communications Center operates in Dubna. A number of enterprises of the city are engaged in the development and production of high-tech products in the field of instrument making, electronics, spectrometry, etc. High intellectual potential, rich scientific traditions became the basis for the creation in 1994 of the Dubna University, which is now a matter of particular pride.

In 2005, the construction of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) began in the city

In 2005, the construction of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of a technical and innovative type began in the city, within the framework of which two main areas will be developed: information and nuclear-physical innovative technologies. The special economic zone will be two sections - on both banks of the Volga River. On the left-bank site with an area of 136 hectares there will be a town of programmers - the Russian Programming Center, as well as a residential neighborhood for 10 thousand inhabitants with all the relevant infrastructure. The right-bank section of the SEZ is equipped with industrial production facilities for the introduction of nuclear-physical technologies: it will be a kind of innovative belt around the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

Dubna today is about 70 thousand inhabitants, almost 1.5 thousand enterprises. The average age of residents of the city is just over 30 years. The presence of modern developed infrastructure - shopping malls, medical centers, cultural and educational institutions, sports facilities - allows you to ensure high standards of living of the population.

The cultural and scientific and educational life of the science city is meaningful and diverse. Dubna is a traditional venue for various conferences and symposia. Now they are arranged here not only by physicists, but also by doctors, politicians, teachers, ecologists. Dubna is famous as a city of athletes. About 30% of residents play sports. It hosts a variety of sports competitions (including international level).
