2022: Creation of a company to which Ford transfers the production of electric vehicles

On March 2, 2022, Ford announced a restructuring in which the American automaker will be divided into two companies:

  • Ford Model E (production of electric vehicles);
  • Ford Blue (production of traditional machines with an internal combustion engine).

Ford allocated electric vehicle production to a new company

This change will lead to "the formation of two separate but strategically interdependent automotive enterprises," Ford explained. Jim Farley, chief executive officer of Ford Motor Co, will head the electric division.

We are on the verge of creating separate but complementary businesses that will give us startup speed and rampant innovations in Ford Model e along with Ford Blue industrial know-how, volumes and cult brands such as Bronco, which startups can only dream of. Ford Model eWill become Ford's center of innovation and growth, a team of the world's best software, electrical and automotive specialists who will work to create truly incredible electric vehicles and digital opportunities for new generations of Ford customers, "he said.

Farley said that the company realized the need to become more flexible in the field of technology, since a large number of competitors enter the market.

Our traditional organization held us back. We had to change, "Farley said.

The company expects that by 2030 half of its cars will be electric vehicles. In 2021, the company announced that by this time it plans to make 40% of its cars electric. The company also said that by 2026 it will produce more than 2 million electric cars per year, which will be about a third of its global fleet.[1]
