2020: Creating a laboratory

On July 7, 2020, it became known about the launch of the first laboratory in Russia for the development of quantum and artistic intelligence for the nuclear industry. This is a joint project of Rosatom and the Russian Quantum Center (RCC).

The laboratory was formed on the basis of the group of quantum information technologies of the RCC and the laboratory of artificial intelligence of the company "Tsifrum" (part of Rosatom) as part of the project for the development of the high-tech field "Quantum Computing," which Rosatom implements by agreement with the Government of the Russian Federation.

The main task of the new laboratory is to develop quantum machine learning and quantum optimization technologies. The creation of quantum computing technologies can radically speed up the solution of optimization problems, processing large amounts of data, clustering and classification. Another promising direction is the use of machine learning and neural networks to study complex (multi-particle) quantum systems, Rosatom said in a statement.

Quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, like nuclear power, are strategically important areas for the Russian economy and strengthen the country's international position. In Russia, the development of quantum technologies is supported at the state level. Cooperation between the RCC and Tsifrum will not only strengthen development, but also expand the scientific and entrepreneurial community, "said Ruslan Yunusov, head of the project office of Rosatom State Corporation for the creation of a quantum computer.

According to the head of the group "Quantum Information Technologies" of the RCC Alexei Fedorov, machine learning and artificial intelligence are the tasks in which a quantum computer can primarily show its benefit.[1]
