2022: Opening a lab to program robots capable of replacing welders and millers

At the end of July 2022, it became known about the opening of a laboratory in Novosibirsk, where robots are programmed that can replace welders and millers. She earned on the basis of the Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) NETI.

The laboratory consists of three posts, each equipped with a specialized Kuka manipulator. Thus, the first post with a robotic MIG/MAG welding cell allows you to perform various welding operations using ESAB equipment.

The second manipulator performs milling operations for products made of polymers, aluminum alloys and wood. The third post is a universal robotic cell with technical vision, designed to handle logistics operations such as warehousing, paleting and sorting.

As the project manager Kirill Zubare explained, the laboratory is intended primarily for industrial enterprises of the Novosibirsk region. For example, if an enterprise plans to purchase a manipulator, it can familiarize itself with what it looks like in practice, see what operations can be performed on them, what technical requirements for a robotic cell. Also set up the manipulator for a specific operation that the company wants to automate. According to Zubare, enterprises can try everything related to welding, milling, and, in principle, they can try something related to logistics: there is a universal robot in the laboratory that we can use for any tasks.

In the laboratory of industrial robotics, opened at the Technical Center of NSTU NETI, enterprises will be able to test their production process and decide on implementation, - said the rector of NSTU Anatoly Bataev[1] }}
