Mesh7 is a developer of technologies to ensure the security of cloud applications. The company's platform is designed to detect and neutralize any active threats.

Mesh7 works by collecting and matching context data from a variety of sources, including application programming interfaces, public cloud logs, host processes, user IDs, and threat analysis. As a result, the platform is able to track any behavioral changes that may indicate a vulnerability or security breach.

History

2021: VMware bought Mesh7

In mid-March 2021, VMware announced the purchase of the Mesh7 at a price that companies did not disclose. A key aspect of the start-up from a VMware perspective is that the Mesh7 surveillance platform is built on the open source Envoy platform. The same platform is based on VMware Tanzu Service Mesh, which provides connectivity and security for applications and microservices in Kubernetes clusters and clouds.

VMware Senior Vice President and General Manager of Networks and Security Tom Gillis said that VMware plans to combine Mesh7 technology with VMware Tanzu Service Mesh so that customers can better understand which application components interact with each other and which APIs they use.

Gillis expects the combination of VMware Tanzu Service Mesh and Mesh7 to be particularly attractive to developers and security teams. According to him, the company's customers "will be able to better understand when, where and how applications and microservices communicate through APIs, even in multi-cloud environments, which will improve DevSecOps."[1]
