History

2024: Universal port project for 20 billion rubles

In mid-February 2024, it became known about the project of a universal seaport in Murmansk. It will be created by 2028, and investments in construction will amount to 20 billion rubles. This was told by the Deputy General Director for Operation of Murmansk Sea Fishing Port JSC (MMRP) Andrei Borodin.

According to him, the renovated Northern District of Murmansk, whose infrastructure is in an extremely worn out state by February 2024, can receive various cargoes going along the Northern Sea Route, and not just fish products that the MMRP specializes in.

In fact, the Northern District is now 34 hectares of extremely worn-out port territory in the center of Murmansk on the right bank of the strategic Kola Bay. In this regard, on the basis of the Northern District, we propose to build a new seaport, which is comparable in scale to the existing Murmansk Commercial Seaport, Borodin said.

By February 2024, cargo work in the Northern District is almost not carried out - there are shallow berths, the condition of which does not allow the use of modern lifting equipment. There are also a large number of emergency buildings in the district.

According to Borodin, it is proposed to dismantle old berths, fill up the existing bucket, form a new berth line with a length of more than 800 m with depths from 14 m and above, dismantle emergency buildings and structures, move non-core facilities relative to port activities, as well as restore the railway access road.

The MMRP believes that the inclusion of this project in the master plan for the development of the Murmansk agglomeration will allow building a new seaport with deep-sea berths in the regional center with the possibility of placing any transshipment complex in it.^[1]

2023: Appointment of Alexander Gromov as head of the Murmansk Sea Fishing Port

On June 8, 2023, it became known about the appointment of Alexander Gromov as the new Director General of the Murmansk Sea Fishing Port (MMRP), which was nationalized a few months earlier - 100% of its shares were recovered in favor of the state because of its strategic importance to ensure the country's defense and state security.
