History

2016: Transition to Nokia control

In 2016, as a result of the abolition of Alcatel-Lucent, Bell Labs came under the control of the Finnish company Nokia.[1]

1883-2008

In 2008, it was announced the curtailment of basic scientific research in the field of materials science and semiconductor physics. Instead, the research center focused on technologies of greatest commercial interest to Alcatel-Lucent's parent company.

On December 1, 2006, Lucent Technologies, as a result of a merger with the French company Alcatel, transformed into Alcatel-Lucent. Bell Labs is the research center of Alcatel-Lucent Corporation.

In 2003, the New Jersey Nanotechnology Laboratory was founded in Murray Hill.

In 1995, the laboratory was acquired by the French company Alcatel-Lucent.

In 1907, the Western Electric and AT&T research teams were merged into the Western Electric Engineering Department (New York), which merged with the AT&T engineering department on January 1, 1925, to form a research center called Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc.

In 1883, AT&T founded the Mechanical Department in Boston; it was later renamed the Engineering Department.
