2023: Development of new types of optical fibers that offer great opportunities for quantum communication

The Schwabe holding and scientists from the Volga State University of Telecommunications and Informatics (PGUTI) announced the development of new classes of optical fibers. Materials that provide a reliable connection when creating telecommunications networks are used in the development of high-tech optical devices, the press service of Rostec (Schwabe is part of this state corporation) said in March 2023.

One of the key results of the intellectual cooperation between Schwabe and PGUTI was the creation of a group of new unique microstructured fiber fibers, characterized by induced chirality - longitudinal twisting. Such materials are used in various industries of photonics and sensorics. For example, when creating optical tweezers, fiber-optic sensors, as well as "generators" of optical vortices, the latter are especially relevant for quantum communications systems.

Optical fibers quite actively displace the copper cables used earlier in telemetry, telemechanics and other private practical applications of on-board and industrial data transmission networks. The fiber is lighter in weight, more compact in installation, immune to electromagnetic interference and, most importantly, has a significantly large bandwidth, says Oleg Yevtushenko, executive director of Rostec. - Cooperation between Schwabe and PGUTI is actually taking place at the intersection of science and industry. This interaction allows you to create new types of optical fiber, expand its scope. We see the first results of this work now, and they are very inspiring.

Another joint development of the Schwabe enterprise and PGUTI is a new class of quartz optical fibers with an extremely increased core diameter - up to 100 microns instead of the typical 50 and 62.5 microns. Due to this, the fiber provides high reliability of the data transmission network in conditions of vibration and possible presence of dust and suspensions in the environment. The material is optimized for cooperation with laser optical radiation sources in the equipment of multi-gigabit data transmission networks of various purposes.

2022: Opening of the National Cyber Poligon Reference Center

At the Volga State University of Telecommunications and Informatics, the support center of the National Cyber Poligon began to work. The main goal of the project is to provide practical-oriented training for information security personnel. This was announced on March 4, 2022 by the Roste lecom-Solar company.

As part of the digital transformation, economies as well as in the emerging difficult situation, it is especially important for us to prepare highly professional personnel for IT the industry who can provide. cyber security countries To Samara The support center created has already become the seventh point of presence of the National Cyber Poligon. Thanks to him, not only students, as well as employees of regional IT companies will be able to work out practical skills to protect against. cyber threats By the end of 2022, it is planned to launch two more support centers in and, - St. Petersburg Orenburg said the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia. Dmitry Chernyshenko

Now PGUTI students will be able to participate in cyber exercises at the National Cyber Polygon, which simulates typical infrastructures of enterprises in key sectors of the Russian economy. Students of the university will train to identify and repel automated attacks, the scenarios of which are developed taking into account the techniques and tactics of real attackers. This will allow PGUTI to train graduates with not only theoretical knowledge in the field of cybersecurity, but also practical skills in protecting against cyber threats.

The first cyber studies for students were held as part of the official opening of the PGUTI cyber polygon. The event, which took place on March 3, was attended by acting Rector of PGUTI Dmitry Mishin, Vice President of PJSC Rostelecom for Information Security Igor Lyapunov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications Alexander Khinshtein, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Samara Region - Head of the Department of Information Technologies and Communications of the Samara Region Konstantin Presnyakov and others.

We focus on practical-oriented training of specialists and implement a large number of events for this, including cooperation with employers and making sure that our teachers constantly improve their qualifications. Now this list has expanded and the presence of a strong training base directly on the territory of the university, - said Dmitry Mishin, acting Rector of the Volga State University of Telecommunications and Informatics.

Also, in the support center of the National Cyber Poligon on the basis of PGUTI, various information security competitions will be held for students of the Samara region and master classes for industry experts working in the region. Another task of the project will be the implementation of research projects in the field of cybersecurity.

The PGUTI cyber polygon has become the third support center for the National Cyber polygon in universities subordinate to the Ministry of Digital Science of Russia, and the seventh point of its presence in the regions of the country - along with missions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, on Russky Island, the federal territory "Sirius" and in Novosibirsk.
