QLU (M-Granat LLC) is a company developing ultra-sensitive magnetic sensors based on an iron-yttrium grenade film used for medical purposes, including for solving neuroimaging problems.

History

2023: Presentation with Skoltech of Magnetic Relaxometry

A team of scientists from the company developing ultra-sensitive magnetic sensors for medical applications at QLU, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and several other universities has completed laboratory tests to use the sensor to analyze magnetic nanoparticles. The researchers were able to visualize the signal both in test tubes and in the tissues of living organisms. This fat is known on January 18, 2023. Read more here.

Receipt of $600 thousand investments from Gazprombank

Gazprombank has invested 33 million rubles in the spin-off of the Russian Quantum Center, a company developing ultra-sensitive magnetic sensors for medical applications of QLU. As a result, the total investment in the project since 2016 has exceeded $1 million, QLU representatives told Zdrav.Expert on June 30, 2022.

Gazprombank invested $600 thousand in the creator of quantum sensors for brain research

In 2021, the QLU team, together with scientists from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and the Higher School of Economics, demonstrated during a study of the electromagnetic activity of the brain - magnetoencephalography (MEG) - the work of the world's first solid-state ultra-sensitive magnetometer operating at room temperature. A sensor based on an iron-yttrium grenade film was able to register weak and deep electrical sources of the brain.

QLU representatives plan to use the funds raised to scale the previously developed system and create a laboratory prototype of an ultra-sensitive magnetoencephalograph - a helmet-like device containing from 5 to 10 ultra-sensitive magnetometers. In the future, such a device would reduce the cost of MEG tenfold and significantly simplify its procedure, experts say.

As Maxim Ostras, executive director and co-founder of QLU, explained, the main difficulty lies in the transition from working with a single quantum sensor to building an instrument based on their array. This process requires the establishment of small-scale production of sensitive elements, as well as ultra-accurate calibration of each individual sensor for their balanced operation, since highly sensitive measurements occur on magnetic fields 10 billion times smaller than the magnetic field. "In the future, we plan to launch fully local production - all key development nodes are already being done in Russia," added Maxim Ostras.

According to QLU, magnetoencephalographs have established themselves as one of the most effective devices for the study of epilepsy, brain tumors, pain perception and other neurological problems. In 2020, the global magnetoencephalography market was estimated at $252 million. According to analysts, the cumulative annual market growth rate (CAGR) from 2021 to 2028 will be 4.6% - including due to the active introduction of advanced technologies.

"Gazprombank was one of the first in Russia to see prospects in the development of quantum technologies, has been investing this industry for a long time and methodically. Projects based on their use are already actively piloted and moving to the commercialization stage. And we can highly appreciate the results of our investments now. And not only in terms of commercial success, but also in terms of their value for the end consumer, "said Dmitry Sauers, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Russian Quantum Center, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Gazprombank.

Rebranding

In 2022, M-Granat rebranded, starting to operate under the QLU brand.

2016: Building a Company

The startup was created in 2016 as a spin-off of the Russian Quantum Center called M-Granat.
