Sinterra Media is a multi-service telecom operator and provider of technological solutions, actively working in the telecommunications services market for TV companies and operators of TV broadcasting networks in the Russian Federation and abroad.

Sinterra Media is engaged in the creation and maintenance of content distribution networks (CDN) for professional participants in the media market, conducts live television broadcasts in the interests of both Russian and foreign television companies, and actively works with pay-TV operators.

History

2020: Acquisition by Rostelecom

On October 22, 2020, Rostelecom announced the conclusion of a legally binding agreement on the acquisition of a 100% stake in Synterra Media CJSC, a federal media service operator, from the MTT group of companies. The transaction amount is 1.5 billion rubles, while the terms provide for a deferred payment, depending on the extension of existing contracts.

The deal will strengthen Rostelecom's competitive position in the segment of professional ground delivery of video content. Combining the assets of the two companies will also create an opportunity for business development to provide technological resources for professional participants in the media market. Sinterra Media will become part of the Rostelecom group as a subsidiary, retaining key personnel and competencies.

Sinterra Media is a player in the land delivery and media distribution market specializing in several areas:

  • delivery of video content and communication from the event sites to the hardware television companies;
  • submitting television programs to distribution networks and pay-TV operators in Russia and abroad;
  • media center services;
  • provision of dedicated communication channels and other services.

The operator's services are used by a large circle of customers, including large media companies and TV channels. The company's revenue in 2019 amounted to about 800 million rubles with an EBITDA margin above 40%.

Rostelecom has historically been a player in the TV content delivery market and the acquisition of Sinterra Media, a federal media services operator, is a logical step in the development of the B2B segment business. The competence center for working with the media market, created on the basis of the acquired asset, will allow the company to become a "single window" to receive a set of technological services from Rostelecom, added Valery Ermakov, vice president for work with corporate and state segments.

2013: Purchase of 60% of Synterra Media shares by MTT Group

MTT Group announced in December 2013 the completion of the transaction on the acquisition of a 60% stake in Synterra Media and the consolidation of a 100% stake in the company. In the near future, there is a close integration of Sinterra Media's competencies, technologies and capabilities into the current activities of the group's companies.

Sinterra Media provides media delivery for the largest domestic and foreign participants in the TV production and broadcasting market, has confident positions in the growing video transit market, including through IP networks. This makes it possible to share Synterra Media's backbone resources with MTT's business and capabilities. Synergies can also be achieved by combining the capabilities of the new company with the developed solutions and technologies of Tsifroprom, a member of the Group and developing consumer applications for mobile operating systems. In addition, Sinterra Media's competencies in content distribution technologies for television production and broadcasting correspond to the group's overall focus on OTT technologies.

According to the group's own estimates, the media content delivery market in Russia is about 1.5 billion rubles. with a share of Sinterra Media at 30%. At the same time, the total volume of the global OTT media market on mobile devices is estimated at $2.7 billion in 2013.

2011

Successfully implemented projects of the company are well known to partners and customers: a media center in Ostankino with a serviced point of connection of TV network operators, a system of online video broadcasts with a large number of connected facilities for direct inclusions, a line for supplying broadcasting programs to foreign networks.
