History

2022: Rebranding

Tietoevry, an international IT integrator with a staff of 24,000 employees, announced a rebranding on February 25, 2022 and presented an updated identity that reflects the company's new values: synthesis of technology, humanism and responsibility, coupled with respect for the individual and responsible attitude to the environment. Values shared by global corporations should be the answer to the challenges faced by society due to the COVID-19 pandemic - accelerated digitalization and deglobalization.

President and CEO of Tietoevry Kimmo Alkio emphasizes that the changed identity reflects the course towards sustainable development, which the company will adhere to in all directions:

File:Aquote1.png
Our goals reflect the values of Tietoevry - trust and openness, as well as the vector of development of society. The past two years have been very unusual - not least because of the pandemic and environmental issues - and this has affected the goals and expectations of our key shareholders. It is more important than ever to have a clear position and to take an active part in public life. Technology is moving society forward, and we want to be a company shaping a digital future based on humanism. Therefore, we must not only think about progress, but also mitigate the negative consequences that technology can carry.

Among the negative changes for which digitalization is responsible in the pandemic era and the measures that can be taken to combat them are the following:

1. Optimization of state and corporate budgets. Tietoevry believes that the decrease in the number of free funds for social protection should be compensated by increasing the efficiency and profitability of private and public structures through the introduction of digital tools;

2. The reduction in the number of economically active people, the transition to remote work means the need to reflect changes in labor protection legislation and the introduction of expanded social protection packages for employees;

3. Increasing the number of personal data processed requires business to adapt to data storage laws. This is one of the areas of expertise of Tietoevry Russia;

4. Strengthening the trend of individualization of society. The solution of the problem is the development of corporate culture, the formation of an ideology of ownership and division of responsibility, which is one of the important tasks in the framework of rebranding;

5. Need to maintain focus on environmental responsibility of business. This means that it is necessary to create and develop sustainable development programs - this is what Kimmo Alkio says.

As part of the rebranding, the company also updates its areas of activity, reflecting the focus on digital transformation:

  • Tietoevry Create develops innovative software and data engineering;
  • Transform is a digital transformation of large business;
  • Connect - Complete cloudy Solution Cycle
  • Banking - financial technologies and platforms;
  • Care - health and social services;
  • Industry - digitalization for industry.

The Russian division of Tietoevry opens new directions: in the second half of 2021, the company's portfolio was replenished with RPA (robotic process automation, which allows you to perform many tasks without human help) in cooperation with BluePrism, and in early 2022 officially launched the direction of microservice development.

The company continues to expand its portfolio of cloud services and solutions for business digitalization, including unique ones in Russia and focused on existing legislation in the field of commerce, storage and data processing.

2013: Tieto conducts mass layoffs of employees

Old Tieto logo

Tieto, a Finnish integrator and IT service provider, announced its intention to cut 135 jobs in Finland. Employees of Managed Services, Product Development Services and Administrative Services who perform support functions will fall under the reduction, reports iteuropa.com.

In addition, the company is already conducting staff reduction activities in Sweden, where it plans to lay off only 35 employees, as well as in China, the Czech Republic and Poland, where together they will lose 100 people.

According to the company's estimates, this year the costs of organizational events will be reduced by about half compared to the same indicator in 2012, which amounted to 57 million euros. In May of this year, Tieto also began negotiations to reduce the staff of Consulting and System Integration (CSI), as a result of which up to 300 employees of the company around the world will be dismissed.

2012

Operating profit growth to 137.1 million euros

The company's net revenue remained at the same level and amounted to 1,825,3 (1,828,1) million euros. However, thanks to the successful development strategy announced in March 2012, the company managed to increase its operating profit to 137.1 (117.1) million euros and profitability to 7.5% (6.4%), and according to the results of Q4 it amounted to even 9.2%, which shows the absolute achievability of the company's goal of reaching a profitability level of at least 10%.

The adoption of the new strategy and the new operational model of management required some global decisions, expressed in terms of reducing administrative staff, optimizing costs, and a more focused approach to markets. During 2012, Tieto announced several reductions in its units in various countries, including: in the UK, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Belarus, Germany and the Netherlands. However, the financial results of 2012 confirm the correctness of the chosen course and allow us to be optimistic about the future.

Sales of the company in 2011 increased by 7%, and net profit by 21%, compared with a 10% drop in net profit in 2010.

NetIQ as a core cloud data center technology

The company NetIQ announced at the end of 2012 that Tieto, the leading European IT service provider, had chosen NetIQ solutions as the underlying cloud data center technology. As a result of this collaboration, Tieto can offer a range of cloud services that combine the speed and flexibility of public clouds and fully meet the requirements of the growing North European market, which are primarily in the integrated provision of services.

"As an IT service provider, we try to be flexible in choosing the technologies we use to build our business. Our partners should have implementation stories that save time and money for their users, "says Pasi Sutinen, technical director of data center service at Tieto. "What's more, our selected partners need to have a general understanding of how to meet our customers' needs with the latest IT market trends and standards - cloud computing, big data, mobility."

Tieto has unambiguously chosen NetIQ Cloud Manager to create Tieto Cloud Server, a cloud-based platform that allows customers to choose a specific service combination that includes maintaining guaranteed performance, providing storage, and handling business-critical queries. All standard service packages are provided at market prices, making it easier for users to scale, manage and plan for a fully-prepared solution that can dynamically adapt to business needs. Tieto's cloud services seamlessly integrate with your infrastructure and enable you to truly deploy services and applications quickly in public, private, or hybrid clouds.

Tieto Cloud Services allows the user to maximize server power without unnecessary investment in hardware or staff. Workload templates can be easily reconfigured to suit your internal processes. Thus, individual workloads and business services can be quickly deployed and quickly scale with complete financial transparency and at any time.

2011: Data center collapse in Sweden

The first few months of his tenure as the new head of Tieto's Kimmo' Alkio were not easy for him: failures haunt the CEO from the moment he took the helm of the largest Scandinavian IT service company in November 2011.

A crushing blow for the company was a hardware failure in one of its Swedish data centers, as a result of which the blackout for more than 50 Tieto customers lasted as long as 5 days, which cast a serious shadow on the company's recovery procedures.

The failure began on November 30, 2011. During the incident, companies such as SBAB Bank, Apotekat, Welfare, Pharmacy, Motor Vehicle Inspection, the Stockholm Administration and others were injured. On the same day, according to Reuters, Tieto shares fell 2.9% in price. A source in Tieto at the same time said that the cause of the accident was the incorrect operation of the clustered storage system.

In the very first month, as head of Tieto, Kimmo Alkio was waiting for a foul: the failure in the Swedish data center of the company left for 5 days without the services of key customers. However, the company managed to close 2011 positively.

However, reporting for the first quarter, when Alkio was at the helm, that is, the fourth financial quarter of 2011, turned out to be positive. The financial results for these three months indicate a steady growth in the company's income, which completely restored investor confidence. Following the announcement of these news, Tieto shares on the Nasdaq rose 13% during one morning.

Of course, Alcio does not have a large confidence loan, given his short tenure at the helm. In addition, the massive failure will affect the financial performance for the first quarter of 2012, when all compensation will be paid to affected customers.

But the figures for 2011 as a whole show that Tieto is on the right track (see Performance indicators). Now the company needs to prove that for the first time in several recent years, its strategy is so strong that it ensures stable business growth.

Alcio's strategy for 2012 implies a focus on improving the quality of service and introducing new services to strengthen customer confidence and profit growth. In the short and medium term, according to analysts at Pierre Audoin Consultants (PAC), the following actions are critical for the company:

  • Solving problems with a failure in the Swedish data center, revising internal regulations, which will not only help to restore order in their own processes, but also reassure customers.
  • Activation in the software market as a service, especially in those industries where Tieto has the strongest positions (economy, healthcare, banking industry), strengthening the portfolio of offers for these vertical industries.
  • Using existing strong areas where Tieto already has strong positions and where, according to PAC experts, the main growth will be concentrated in the next 5 years: these are BI unified communications. Here, competition from the and will increase IBM. Accenture
  • Development of R&D services: now Tieto is the largest provider of R&D services for manufacturers of telecommunications equipment, the turnover from the implementation of engineering solutions of the company amounted to 346 million euros in 2011. There is great potential for Tieto in this competitive market, analysts say.

2010

According to 2010 data, TietoEnator shares are listed on the stock exchanges of Helsinki and Stockholm. The Finnish company operates in 26 countries mainly with customers in Northern Europe and Scandinavia.

Also, Tieto and Microsoft have been collaborating in telecommunications, finance, industrial production, retail, forestry, the public sector, health and social welfare for the past 15 years. Among the joint solutions, there are both basic infrastructure and specialized industrial solutions.

Purchase by Solidium Oy 5% Tieto Corporation

In April 2010, the Finnish state-owned company Solidium Oy acquired 5% of Tieto Corporation, one of the largest European system integrators. According to iteuropa.com, the deal amounted to about 58 million euros. After its implementation, Solidium Oy became the third largest shareholder of Tieto. Solidium is a holding company wholly owned by the State of Finland. Its total investment exceeds 9 billion euros.
