History

2021: VK bought Umskul

At the end of October 2021, it became known that VK (formerly called Mail.ru Group) acquired 25% of the Russian Umskul educational project, which is preparing for the exam and the OGE. Together with the purchase of 90% of the Brazilian online school Mentorama, the total amount of transactions amounted to 1.66 billion rubles. VK said that "the main goal of the acquisition was to expand the group's presence in the online education market ."

Umskul prepares students from the age of 12 for the exam. According to its own data, for 5 years of work by October 2021, the platform prepared more than 50 thousand children for exams. In addition to classes with teachers on the platform, you can find free online classes, videos and courses to prepare for the exam and OGE, useful information on all subjects, author's manuals, tables and everything you need to prepare for exams.

VK bought a service to prepare for the exam


According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, Umskul LLC was formed in 2018. Dmitry Danilov owns 60% of the company. Cyprus subsidiary VK Lomigor Investment Limited owns 25%. Another 15% belongs to the second founder of the company, Mikhail Soldatov (data for October 2021).

In total, the VK educational ecosystem includes, in addition to GeekBrains and Skillbox, also the Spherical platform and its own educational projects, including together with leading universities in the country. Also, the platform for schoolchildren "Учи.ру" joined the educational ecosystem. In addition, there are projects in the ecosystem in which the company has invested, in particular, the Tetrika platform. Also, VK through Skillbox acquired 90% of the Brazilian online school Mentorama.

In October 2021, the holding reported that it had increased its stake in the SkillFactory platform to 61.8%. As indicated in the materials, in September 2021, the company exercised an option to buy an additional share in the amount of 43.5% for 1.088 billion rubles.[1]
