The Ural Customs Administration (UTU) was created by order of the State Customs Committee of Russia dated April 1, 1993 No. 116. Six customs offices are directly subordinate to the Directorate: Ural Electronic, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk and Koltsov Customs named after V.A. Sorokin, whose structure includes 37 customs posts, as well as the Ural Operational Customs.

Today, more than 2,000 people work in UTU. The tasks of the Office include protecting the economic interests of the State, protecting the life and health of citizens, and countering smuggling and terrorism.
