Volocopter is a German developer of a series of systems for urban airmobility (UAM). The company's activities began in 2011, among the company's developments: air taxi VoloCity, air taxi VoloPort station in Singapore, cargo drone VoloDrone, intelligent platform VoloIQ for urban aeromobility, which is integrated with Microsoft Azure - it is the digital basis for supporting the entire Volocopter ecosystem.

History

2021: Attraction of 200 million Euro investments

In early March 2021, the German developer of urban aeromobility systems Volocopter attracted an additional 200 million euros in series D financing. Among the new investors are funds managed by BlackRock, Avala Capital, Atlantia, Continental, the investment fund Jericho Capital, NTT, Tokyo Century and others.

Additional funds increased the total volume of attracted investments of the company to 322 million euros. Volocopter plans to direct the funds raised for the further development of air taxi VoloCity, as well as the development of prototypes of cargo air unmanned vehicles VoloDrone. The company will also direct the funds raised to accelerate the transition to the commercial stage of operation of a new type of urban transport.

According to Volocopter, the company is in the final stages of developing new, sustainable travel options for cities around the world. Volocopter was the first to receive permission from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for project activities in the EU in the field of creating electric air transport with vertical take-off and landing. The company plans to start operations in Europe in the next two to three years. In January 2021, the company also announced that it had received permission from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to pass certification for flights to the United States.

Volocopter is also developing in Asia, where the company plans to obtain permission from regulators to perform commercial flights over the next five years.[1]
