Main article: Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) - 802.11 wireless standard

TP-Link Archer is a line of wireless routers with Wi-Fi 802.11ac support. A number of models also received support for the 802.11ax standard.

2023: Identifying vulnerabilities that allow hackers to gain control over devices

On January 11, 2023, the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released two security bulletins with information about vulnerabilities in the Netprom and TP-Link routers. Attackers, in particular, can seize full control of the device.

Netprom NF20, NF20MESH and NL1902 router models with firmware versions up to R6B035 are susceptible to stack buffer overflow (CVE-2022-4873) and authentication error (CVE-2022-4874). By exploiting these holes, cybercriminals can execute arbitrary program code on the router. The vulnerabilities were first discovered in October 2022 by information security researcher Brendan Scarvell.

Serious holes found in TP-Link routers

An attacker can first gain unauthorized access to vulnerable devices, and then use these entry points to invade other networks or compromise the availability, integrity and privacy of data transmitted from the internal network, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) said in a statement.
File:Aquote2.png

At the same time, two vulnerabilities were also found in the TP-Link WR710N-V1-151022 and Archer-C5-V2-160201 routers: one of them provides the ability to remotely execute malicious code (CVE-2022-4498), and the other creates a threat of unauthorized disclosure of information (CVE-2022-4499). The second of these holes can be used when conducting attacks on third-party channels aimed at vulnerabilities in the practical implementation of the cryptosystem. In particular, by measuring the time of calculations during certain operations and conducting statistical analysis of data, attackers can theoretically obtain information about the secret key. How many users may have suffered as a result of attacks through these holes is not reported.[1]
