Content

VMware Horizon View Clients is the solution for infrastructure management of virtual desktop computers (VDI).

Features

Control of desktop computers Increase in extent of control over desktop computers, applications and data due to their providing and administration as the centralized services.

Convenience of work of the user Maximum capacity and convenience of a workplace to the end users with connection through global networks or local networks working independently. Use of desktop computers and mobile devices is supported.

Flexible access Access to desktop computers for end users, when necessary. Unlike traditional PCs the Horizon View desktop computers are in a cloud and are not tied to the physical computer.

Compatibility with a cloud Conversion of desktop computers to the high-available flexible services provided from "cloud".

2014

VMware Horizon View Clients 2.3

On January 23, 2014 the VMware company updated software for creation of VDI infrastructure of the enterprise with release of Horizon View Clients of version 2.3. Clients for Windows and Mac OS, mobile clients for Android and iOS were updated.

From new products in Horizon View Clients 2.3:

  • Real-Time Audio-Video for Mac clients (RTAV)

This function already works in VMware View releases - for Linux it appeared in version 5.3. Now and for clients under Mac OS. Function supports the high performance of work with audio / video-potokom that allows use of webcams and microphones in virtual PCs, with Skype applications, Webex or Google Hangouts.

  • Drag & Drop

The users of Windows and Mac having several virtual PCs can reorganize their icons, moving them in work area.

2015

There was a release of the version of VMware Horizon View 6.1

On March 15, 2015 the VMware company announced availability to loading of the solution for virtualization of desktop[1]. The version of VMware View 6.0 appeared in the spring of 2014[2].

In version 6.1 of a product the set of new improvements, like support of the new version of Virtual SAN 6.0 and a possibility of placement up to 200 virtual PCs on one host is entered that allows to reduce the cost of ownership of infrastructure to 50%.

The list of the added features for VMware Horizon View 6.1:

  • Support of new platforms.

    • Now Horizon View supports more functions in virtual PCs: expanded support of RDS desktops, Chromebook devices and also virtual Linux PCs is declared.

    • Now as guest OS of the virtual PC it is possible to use Windows Server 2012 R2 which looks as Windows 8.

    • the Chromebook Devices which became popular in some niches (for example, in training), can fully be used as clients of VMware View (the client is made on the Android client platform) due to the App remoting functions.

    • virtual Linux PCs Are supported.

  • Support of vGPU.

    • the vGPU Mode allows to provide resources of the video card (GPU) directly at once to several virtual machines (vGPU mode). It is possible to use it only with VMware vSphere 6 and later versions. It is provided with means of virtual hardware version 11.

Interaction of VMware Horizon View 6.1, 2015

  • Improvements of storages

    • full support of Virtual SAN 6.0 is implemented. If earlier support of VSAN was limited (for example for version 5.3.1 Sparse-disks were not supported, then now everything fully works.

    • the maximum values of VSAN storages Are relevant:
    • up to 200 desktops per host.
    • up to 4000 virtual PCs on a cluster of VSAN.
    • up to 20 hosts in Virtual SAN cluster.
    • augmented list of compatibility (HCL).
    • up to 2000 desktops on view block in one cluster of VSAN.

    • redirection of local disks in the virtual RDSH PC:

This function is supported in the native mode (i.e., not through redirection) and therefore works quickly.

Network politicians of NSX can "wander" together with the virtual machine at its movement between the data-centers or the cities.

  • Support of IPv6.

    • IPv6 is completely supported, as well as FQDN, for all clients. Only in the native mode (not mixed mode).

  • Improvements of architecture of Cloud Pod

    • the View Administrator interface is used for creation and infrastructure management of Cloud Pod
    • all geographically distributed platforms can be managed fully from one point now.

  • Support of Virtual Volumes (VVols).
    • the Virtual Volumes technology allows to give load on the majority of transactions with VM storages of the party of an array.

VMware View 6.1 is native supports VVols for SAN/ NAS- devices. Implementation of this technology depends on vendor of "iron".

Small improvements are implemented. The list is available according to the link.

It is possible to load VMware View 6.1 here.

VMware released the version of Horizon View 6.1.1

On June 4, 2015 VMware released update of the virtualization platform of desktop PCs Horizon View 6.1.1[3].

Architecture of Horizon View 6, 2015

Possibilities of this version:

  • Client Drive Redirection
    • Users can give access to folders and drives of the local client PCs for deleted desktops and applications now. Client Drive Redirection is supported for VDI desktops and for RDS desktops and applications. This opportunity is supported for Windows OS and in the experimental mode for Mac OS X - the files transferred on network are not ciphered.

  • Desktops from Linux OS on the Horizon 6 platform
    • there Was an opportunity to unroll View Horizon infrastructure on the basis of virtual PCs with Linux OS. For Linux virtual machines the vDGA technology is supported (at the moment only for NVIDIA GRID GPU adapters). Some opportunities, such as SSO, no-touch deployment of virtual PCs, HTML Access and redirection of local disks in this version are not supported

  • Serial Port Redirection
    • Now users can redirect a serial port (COM) RS232 or USB-to-Serial adapters. Through these ports it is possible to forward old printers, scanners of barcodes and other legacy or industrial devices.

  • Support of Windows Media Multimedia Redirection (MMR) for virtual PCs based on RDS
    • Earlier such opportunity was supported only for virtual desktops of VDI at which only one user could work.

  • Support of HTML Access for the Hosted Apps applications
    • Now users can get access to the virtualized Hosted Apps applications by means of web clients of HTML Access. To use this opportunity it is necessary to load and set HTML Access installer.
