According to Chernyshenko, 16.5 billion rubles is the budget for the development of advanced engineering schools in 2024. Part of this amount (4.3 billion rubles) will go, among other things, to the launch of new schools. Until 2030, the amount of expenses for the implementation of the project will exceed 30 billion rubles.

By December 11, 2023, 30 engineering schools based on universities in 15 regions of the Russian Federation are operating in Russia. They train engineers in 20 areas such as engine building, medical instrumentation, atomic engineering, aviation and rocket and space technology, artificial intelligence and others.

As Dmitry Chernyshenko noted, more than 150 high-tech companies are included in the work of advanced engineering schools, which not only finance their programs, but also actively participate in the educational process, creating educational modules, and are also aimed at employing graduates in their own companies.

The federal project is being implemented in partnership with universities and high-tech companies that participate in the educational process, the creation of new technologies and the financing of the program. The total financing of new selection participants will amount to more than 3 billion rubles annually. The grant funds will be used to support programs for the development of advanced engineering schools. Also, funding will ensure the passage of practices and internships for students, advanced training and professional retraining of faculty and management teams of such schools, as well as universities participating in the project. All these events will be held on the basis of high-tech partner companies.

Applications are accepted in electronic format using the Unified Portal of State Support until October 13, 2023. Selection results will be announced by the end of 2023.

The Advanced Engineering Schools project started in 2022. As of mid-September 2023, 30 universities of various departmental affiliation in 15 regions of Russia are its participants. 150 leading Russian companies are already acting as partners, including Roscosmos, Almaz-Antey, Sibur, Gazprom Neft, Tatneft, KamAZ, the United Instrument-Making Corporation, etc.

Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov noted that the distribution of grants between schools was influenced by the effectiveness of the implementation of development programs, the degree of integration of schools into the agenda of enterprises in the real sector of the economy, as well as how universities have complied with the recommendations of the past Council and their obligations to attract extrabudgetary funds.[3]

The federal project "Advanced Engineering Schools" was developed on the basis of one of 42 strategic initiatives approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, and became part of the state program "Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation." In early October 2021, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order approving several dozen initiatives aimed at the socio-economic development of Russia until 2030.
