Datafold was launched in 2020 by Gleb Mezhansky and Alex Morozov. The company, according to its website, seeks to solve these problems and prevent data disasters using its end-to-end reliability platform. The solution automates many tedious workflows in the data product development process, from searching for high-quality data to testing changes and patches before they are put into production, and monitoring existing data pipelines.

History

2021: Attracting $20 million of investments

On November 9, 2021, Datafold, a startup that automates workflows and maintains data quality, announced it would raise $20 million as part of a Series A funding round led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), as well as Amplify Partners. The attracted investments will be used by the company to further develop its data reliability platform and expand the team.

The company focuses on proactively identifying data anomalies before they enter production and cause damage. The task-solving function, Data Diff, automates data testing in the change management workflow and integrates it into the CI/CD process and code repositories. The output shows the data technician how a change in the data processing code will affect the data result and subsequent products. In addition, like competitors, Datafold also uses machine learning (ML) to monitor and detect failures in older data products that are already in production.

"Datafold provides an almost unified data catalog that allows data developers to find the right data sets of several thousand and instantly evaluate their performance, that is, see the distribution of data in each column, quality metrics, whether this column is full or mostly zeroed out, and the history of the data set. Before using our product, customer teams spent several hours doing the same task, but with our toolkit it takes about five minutes. Thus, this is a significant acceleration in testing various projects, "said Gleb Mezhanski, founder and CEO of Datafold.

In the future, Datafold plans to develop its product, expanding its capabilities to automate more checks and tests conducted by data engineers. The company believes that more than 80% of the work of data engineers can be automated. Along with this, the company also plans to launch an intelligent alert function that will prioritize data anomalies, helping teams solve which problems are most critical and require a priority solution, as of November 2021 this function is being tested among several customers. In the near term, Datafold expects that these improvements will allow you to register five times growth. The company will also expand its team from 18 to 40 or more people by the end of 2022. According to Crunchbase, since its inception, the startup has raised $22.2 million.[1]
