Career

2002-2016

Since 2002, a career in: Russia market research and the start of the project for the construction of the first hypermarket "" in Globus Russia.

From 2004 to 2009 - Director of the Territorial Business and Construction Planning Department.

From 2010 to 2016 - CEO and at the same time HR Director at Globus.

In November 2016, he headed his own consulting company RUNE-Center. Its main area of ​ ​ activity is an effective organizational model, corporate culture, and solving operational problems.

2019-2022

Since November 2019, Johannes Tolay has served as CEO of the Russian division of retailer Auchan. Since October 2022, he joined the Metro Russia team as Deputy General Director.

2023: Appointment as CEO of Metro store chain

On March 1, 2023, Johannes Tolay was appointed CEO of the Russian representative office of the Metro chain of stores. Prior to that, he worked in the company as a deputy head.

Tolay headed Metro Russia instead of Martin Schumacher, who remained in the Metro group and began running its business in Germany.

As reported in the Metro Russia Telegram channel, under the leadership of Johannes Tolay, the retailer will continue to implement its strategy in the field of wholesale trade, both with professional clients and with individuals. The company's priorities for the near future are the development of e-commerce, support programs for B2B partners (restaurants, hotel business, independent retail), as well as investing in pricing in order to make the wholesale offer as profitable as possible for all groups of customers, the company said in a statement dated March 2, 2023.

Metro added that the company maintains its operations in the Russian Federation in full and sees its mission as supporting customers and partners, demonstrating stability and reliability. By March 2023, Metro operates 93 shopping centers in 51 regions of Russia.[1]
