Malkolm Douglas Makilroy

Malkolm Douglas Makilroy (Malcolm Douglas McIlroy)  is a mathematician, the engineer, the programmer. Made an invaluable contribution to development and upgrade of the UNIX operating system, in particular spell, diff, sort, join, graph and speak is responsible for creation of such tools as. Since 2007 it yavyaltsya by the associate professor of department of ADP equipment of Dartmouth College (Dartmouth College) in Hanover.

Biography, career

Was born Makilra in 1932. Received the bachelor's degree as "engineer-physicist" at the Korneliansky University in 1954. In 1959 he receives PhD degree in the field of applied mathematics in Masachusetsvk Tekhnologicheskm the University (MIT). Dissertation work of Makilroya was written on the subject "Solution of the Differenitsialny Equations"

1958 more Makilra comes to Bell Labs. From 1965 to 1986 headed research department of ADP equipment  — the birthplace of the operating room of the UNIX systems. After leaving from a position it was transferred to "honorary members of technicians" of laboratory.

In August, 1961 Victor Vysotsky invented a game under the name "Darwin" in which small programs fought with each other for mastering of digital space. Douglas Makilroy developed the most part of the code of a game, including the subprogramme responsible for reproduction. At last, the third scientist, Robert Morris Sr., created a killing digital organism which develops and passes on experience of the successful attacks to the descendants.

Is the chairman of the board of trustees of an award of Turing. Member of National academy of engineering. also entered as the national lecturer in "The world association of computers".
