2019: Arrest for creation of the scheme of black support

On September 18, 2019 FBI agents arrested two suspects who as it is considered, organized the large fraudulent scheme of technical support which provided them more than $10 million. Swindlers enticed this money at more than 7500 victims, the majority of which were elderly people.

Two suspects by the name of Romana Leyva and Ariful Haque developed the classical fraudulent scheme — they used websites for demonstration of pop-up windows with false warnings of security and intimidated the victims believing that their computers are infected with the malware.

The victims were recommended to call number of technical support where from them required a single, annual or lifelong payment for security. The cost of "services" of swindlers was from several hundred to several thousand dollars. Some victims malefactors deceived twice, claiming that the initial company of technical support stopped the activity.

From 7500 victims injured by these swindlers, the vast majority were elderly people. Earlier Microsoft reported that from 175,000 complaints of clients to fraud in the field of technical support in a year the majority arrived from elderly people, many of which have no sufficient knowledge to recognize swindlers.

The prosecutor's office schitatat that Leiva and Haque played a key role in the fraudulent scheme which worked from March, 2015 to December, 2018. Suspects were founders of the company which gained income from these fraudulent payments and also hired other participants. Charge of fraud using electronic intermedia was brought to both. Criminals are threatened by 20 years of imprisonment.[1]
