Biography

2017: The first bitcoin billionaire

At the beginning of December, 2017 it became known of the first billionaires who came into the fortune thanks to investments into bitcoin. Brothers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss (Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss) were them.

According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, in 2013 these businessmen purchased 1% of world reserves of bitcoins for $11 million. Then the rate of a virtual currency made $120. By December 3, 2017 the rate increased approximately up to $ 11,600 therefore the capital of brothers overcame a boundary of $1 billion.

Brothers Winklevoss long time had legal proceedings with the founder and the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg, accusing him of theft of their idea when it worked on their HarvardConnection social network. Later they managed to reach the settlement agreement, and Zuckerberg paid to entrepreneurs about $65 million. It is supposed that on this money and bitcoins were purchased.

By the beginning of December, 2017 a fortune of brothers Winklevoss is estimated in 100 thousand bitcoins. At the same time they never sold cryptocurrency, expecting a long-term investment payback. In one of the interviews Tyler called bitcoin "the improved version of gold".

The Telegraph did not manage to receive from the representative of brothers of fresher comments on this subject.

In addition to purchase of bitcoins, Uinklvossa opened own online exchange and venture fund. 

The family Winklevoss is known not only the dispute with Zuckerberg: they professionally are engaged in rowing and won gold at the Pan-American games of 2008 in the eight with the helmsman and also reached the final of the two at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Other owner of bitcoins more than for $1 billion is the founder of currency known under Satoshi's alias of Nakamoto  (Satoshi Nakamoto).[1]

2021: Tyler Winklevoss entered rating crypto - millionaire

On January 11, 2021 the Forbes magazine published the rating of the richest people who earned the status thanks to cryptocurrencies.
