As it was reported, SUSE decided to refuse release of the automated platform of cloud computing updated versions for deployment and management of private clouds of OpenStack Cloud. In addition it stopped sales of copies of the platform. OpenStack Cloud 9, a basis for which OpenStack Rocky and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 12 SP4 formed, was the last, the version of the platform released several months earlier. It was the first which was integrated with HPE Helion OpenStack. SUSE purchased this cloud asset of HPE with three years before.

As for further plans of SUSE, the company will continue to develop Linux-server for the SLES and SUSE Enterprise Storage enterprises — program-controlled storage client data based on Linux and Ceph technology.

Failure from OpenStack Cloud happened against the background of replacement of the leadership — in July, 2019 SUSE was headed by Melissa Di Donato. Having become in July the CEO of SUSE, she did not comment on the further steps concerning the strategy of the company in any way.

OpenStack Foundation which supervises development of umbrella projects of a cloud platform of OpenStack approached the solution of SUSE with understanding and pragmatism.[1]

The chief operating officer of OpenStack Foundation Mark Kolyer does not regard the fact that SUSE leaves OpenStack ecosystem as sign that the OpenStack project faced problems. According to him, according to 451 Research and other market observers, by 2022 the volume of the combined OpenStack and Kubernetes market will be more than 11 bln. dollars from which 7.7 will fall on OpenStack.
