AutoCAD MEP - Software for design and drawing of engineering networks.

AutoCAD MEP helps to design engineering networks of buildings and to issue documentation on them. The AutoCAD environment provides the high accuracy of the created projects. Automation of drawing transactions, a possibility of application of library components and function of identification of collisions help to increase performance.

Properties of a system

Joint work

  • Support of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Architecture. In the AutoCAD MEP program work with two-dimensional plans of floors of AutoCAD and also with plans of floors from the geometrical AutoCAD Architecture model is supported. Links to architectural plans of floors help to develop and annotate projects, to mark elements and to issue design documentation of the engineering systems.

  • Automatic calculation of spaces and zones. It is possible to take spaces from available architectural 2D - plans of floors and also from the geometrical AutoCAD Architecture models. Calculation of their areas and volumes is made automatically. Information on premises and zones can be used when exporting to the gbXML format for the subsequent import to web service for calculation of energy consumption of Green Building Studio (English) or in third-party settlement applications.

  • Support of data of IFC. Support of IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) in AutoCAD MEP allows to manage data of a CAD on the engineering systems and to exchange them with other project participants. When exporting to IFC there is an automatic object recognition of AutoCAD MEP and data on connections for formation of the corresponding objects of IFC Building Services.

  • Online help and training aids.


Installation of systems and library components

  • Pometochny cloud. There are types of a pometochny cloud: "By hand", Polygonal, Rectangular or Object. The Scale of Summaries function automatically scales length of an arc of a pometochny cloud. It allows to implement the approved display on views with different scales.

  • Advanced sections. New improvements help to increase efficiency. Now it is available:
    • to Update all sections on the drawing one mouse click and also to automatically update a set of objects at their adding.
    • to Select rise and an omitting of designations from sections for air ducts and pipelines when finding any part of an object within section volume.
    • to Create new lines of section and to form results of section using only one team.

  • The improved means of preparation of documentation. 3D models created in the AutoCAD MEP program can be transformed to 2D - drawings for use in documentation. Improvements of the command line include autoend and separation of commands and system variables. A big variety of fonts and flowers will help to refresh execution of documentation. Performance of drawing and modeling increases by means of use of expanded associative arrays.

  • Built-in function of search of components. AutoCAD Content Explorer can be used for quick search of files of projects, objects and components in the AutoCAD MEP program. Search is performed on local and network drives. The found data - to use in design-time environment. Search of components allows to increase the level of observance of industry standards and standards of the enterprise and also opens a possibility of use of realistic components of systems.

  • Conversion of blocks and designations AutoCAD. Blocks, multispecific blocks and the multispecific AutoCAD elements can be transformed to images of devices and schematical designations. In order that normal 2D - blocks could be used as 3D - the AutoCAD MEP components, they are given volume by means of extrusion, and then connection points are added. Besides, AutoCAD blocks can be transformed both to orthogonal, and to isometric designations; it facilitates preparation of schemes and other documentation.

  • Management of drawings. The navigator simplifies work with drawings of the project, allowing to create the coordinated types on the basis of the engineering systems of parameters set in the project. All specialists working on the project get access only to relevant files — beginning from templates of the project and finishing with cuts and facades.

  • The configured trace of pipelines. Creation of more realistic projects of pipelines. For oblique pipes and also a fitting with an external and internal thread, it is possible to use the built-in parameters of trace. It is better to use components of pipelines created especially for AutoCAD MEP.


Performance and convenience

  • Observer of styles. The efficiency of navigation, search and adding of styles of objects is increased. Functions of dynamic search, a large number of sources and libraries will help to increase work speed. There is import of styles and adding of objects of the selected style on the existing drawing. It is possible to customize the display of print preview in the Observer of styles.

  • Redefinition of properties of visibility. In the section of "The description of property sets" of the Manager of styles it is possible to redefine settings of visibility and an order of plotting. After correction of these settings according to the requirements you can make properties inactive to prevent their change.

  • Fitting of withdrawal of an air duct.

  • Status bar. The application status bar includes the Configuration of Screen Representation and Secant Plane tools now. The status bar was expanded for 2 lines thanks to what on the screen all selected controls are visible. The status bar of the drawing is deleted.

  • The automated descriptions of property sets. Perhaps automatic insertion of the description of property sets in architectural objects for estimating. The new, changed or existing descriptions of property sets can be attached to newly created objects and their styles, the existing objects now.

  • Scaling of summaries and units of measurement / At change of units of measure of the drawing of the brand of objects, text texts and other scalable summaries change as appropriate. The choice is available: to what to apply scaling - to objects of space of model and a paper space, or only to model space objects. It is possible to refuse scaling in general.

  • Layer-by-layer order of display. It is possible to control how in the work documentation architectural elements and the engineering systems will be displayed. The order of an output of layers with objects on the screen is established using the list. Print preview allows to be convinced that changes will yield the correct result.

  • Replacement of blocks. In process of project development it is possible to make changes to its components easily. Copies of blocks can appoint other descriptions without repeated creation of blocks.

  • Clouds of points. Using these clouds of points for formation of the existing conditions in projects of the engineering systems it is possible to save time and to increase design accuracy in AutoCAD MEP. Modeling on the basis of results 3D - scannings is available. It allows to optimize labor-consuming projects of reconstruction, upgrade and restoration. Visualization of surfaces of the scanned objects and a binding to them are executed directly in a working space for modeling.

  • Search of elements of the interface. The searching tool of elements of the interface is available to quick search of often used commands directly from a help system.

2015: Additions in AutoCAD MEP

On May 27, 2015 the Autodesk company announced entering of additions into the program of design of engineering networks AutoCAD MEP.

AutoCAD MEP switches on tools for modeling of channels for an electrical wiring and air ducts.
