2023: Product Announcement

On March 16, 2023, the Chinese company Baidu announced its own chat bot based on artificial intelligence - the Ernie Bot system, which is an analogue of ChatGPT developed by OpenAI.

During the presentation, Baidu showed that Ernie Bot is able to perform various mathematical calculations, speak Chinese dialects, and generate video materials and images with text prompts. The presentation took place in the format of pre-recorded videos, and not in real communication with the neural network. Access to Ernie Bot is granted by invitation as this generative AI is being tested. Enterprise customers can apply to build the bot into their products through the Baidu cloud platform.

The presentation was more of a scripted monologue rather than the interactive session users were waiting for. The date of the public availability of the service was not announced either, "said Kai Wang, an analyst at Morningstar.

The Baidu chatbot is based on the Ernie (Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration) deep learning AI model. Baidu CEO Robin Lee acknowledged that the bot is not perfect and needs to be refined.

So why are we introducing it today? Because the market requires this, - said Lee, quoted by Reuters.

It is noted that approximately 650 companies from various sectors have announced their intention to join the Ernie ecosystem. Baidu has high hopes for its AI bot. In the future, Ernie Bot is planned to be integrated into the company's search engine. In addition, the neural network will be used to improve the efficiency of cloud computing.
