2018: Beginning of serial deliveries

On September 6, 2018 the Broadcom company announced the beginning of serial deliveries as the producer claims, chips of wireless communication, the first in the market, with support of the IEEE 802.11ax specifications.

The single-crystal system which received designation BCM43684 belongs to a line of the single-crystal Broadcom Max WiFi systems and represents the sixth generation of Wi-fi networks. The chip supports simultaneous transfer of content (video, a voice, data, IoT-services) on a set of the devices connected to house wireless communication with "unprecedented quality", the press release says.

Serial deliveries of the first chips with support of the new Wi-fi standard are started

Chips support four times and six times higher rates of speed of the entering and outbound traffic respectively and also offer four times wider covering of a signal in comparison with technology of the previous generation — 802.11ac.

Among other features — support of Dual Band Simultaneous Streaming technology and modulation of OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) at the expense of what the efficiency and capacity of a wireless network as several devices work in parallel in the frequency ranges selected in proportion to their requirements increases.

Max WiFi chips are focused on use in the home equipment and will find application in devices of different producers. The first installation of such solutions was announced by Netgear company.

In September, 2018 the Wireless Broadband Alliance organization published results of a research in which reported that it is transmitted through Wi-fi networks  to nearly 70% of these smartphones. In  the world there are 8  billion Wi-fi devices from  which 3  billion appeared for  the last 12  months.

Also it is noted that in Wi-Fi 802.11ax are improved performance, capacity and  efficiency and  will be maintained scenarios of early application of a 5G.

2017: Announcement

In August, 2017 Broadcom announced as the company claims, chips, the first in the market, with support of the Wi-fi standard of new generation — 802.11ax. Thanks to this technology data transfer rate increases several times, and devices can longer work without recharge.

In assortment of Broadcom Max WiFi chips appeared. The equipment equipped with them will be able to download four times quicker data and six times quicker to transfer them to a remote server in comparison with the solutions having support of Wi-fi of the previous generation (802.11ac).

Evolution of Wi-fi

Besides, new products have four times wider acceptance region of a signal and provide a 7-fold prize regarding energy efficiency, says the company.

One more feature is support of modulation of OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) applied on the cellular networks and planning of traffic. The producer notes that fully advantages of innovations reveal in the equipment supporting 802.11ax, however and the devices of the previous generations supporting 802.11ac and 802.11n in networks 802.11ax will better work.

Chips of Max WiFi support MU-MIMO and multithreaded connection in the ranges of 2.4 and 5 GHz.

Broadcom claims that new solutions are created for simultaneous transfer of video content, data, a voice and IoT-traffic which volume grows as at home, and in office. The architecture is optimized for unloading of information in the Internet and works with web services, such as cloud storages and services of stream broadcasting of a multimedia content.

As of August 16, 2017 fact-finding versions of Max WiFi chips (BCM43684, BCM43694 and BCM4375 model) go to clients of Broadcom. About terms of serial deliveries of products are not sounded.[2]
