2021: Digitization of three thousand issues of the newspaper "Our Time"

On November 9, 2021, ELAR announced that the issues of one of the oldest newspapers in the Rostov region, Our Time, were translated into electronic format for the Don State Public Library.

The Rostov regional socio-political newspaper "Our Time" is one of the significant historical sources of the socio-political and spiritual life of the population of the Rostov Region of the 20th century and a fundamental base for historical, cultural, literary and book studies. The history of the newspaper began in 1921 and since then the publication has changed its name several times. "Don's Youth," then - "Bolshevik Shift," since 1952 - "Komsomolets," and in 1991 the newspaper began to be called "Our Time."

In 2021, sets of Komsomolets newspapers for 1965-1977 were digitized. A total of 13 annual sets, or 3256 rooms, "said Anna Zhelyabovskaya, Deputy Director for Development. - The goal of the project is to create a digital collection of the complete set of the newspaper "Our Time," which has been published for 100 years. The creation of digital copies will contribute to ensuring the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Rostov region, the introduction into scientific and public circulation and the popularization of regional print publications on the history, public life and culture of the region.

Newspaper scanning was carried out by ELAR specialists on professional domestic equipment, - planetary scanners. Planetary or book scanners were created taking into account many years of experience in digitizing various originals in format, material and safety and made it possible to obtain high-quality electronic copies of the newspaper "Our Time" without the risk of damage to even dilapidated pages.

The obtained digital copies of newspapers will be placed in the Don Electronic Library, in the digital collection "Socio-political newspaper" Our Time. "

2014

On December 4, 2014, ELAR announced work on the digitization of a collection of pre-revolutionary newspapers in the Don Electronic Library.

Project Tasks

Printed periodicals published in the Rostov Region until 1917 contain valuable information for studying the social, cultural and economic pre-revolutionary life of the region. The Don State Public Library has created an Internet resource where digital copies of local history documents are located. Including in the fund of the Don Electronic Library - a collection of pre-revolutionary periodicals, it is constantly replenished. As of December 4, 2014, newspapers published in the region at the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th centuries were digitized.

Project Outcome

Work on the creation of electronic copies was carried out by ELAR Corporation. The newspapers Priazovsky Krai (1896), Don Bee (1877, 1878-1888), South (1893-1895), Leaf of War (1915-1916), Sports Newspaper (1916) were digitized on the company's industrial scanners.

In total, more than 8.5 thousand newspaper strips were scanned.
