Special mesh-networks for "the military Internet"

In 2020 in the Russian army special mesh-networks for "the military Internet", steady against cracking and suppression will be created.

These information systems can cover the area of thousands of kilometers, and their setup will not take a lot of time. The Defense Ministry already prepares special protocols and software for creation of new networks, Izvestia with reference to sources in the Ministry of Defence reported in December, 2019.

The first mesh-networks were tested during the exercise "Center-2019". This technology provides data exchange at considerable distances using separation of one big route into several short transitions between nodes. For information transfer radio channels, excepting need for cable connection are used. Data transmission is performed by wireless stations which create so-called "cells".

"Cells connect with each other by the principle "everyone to everyone" that gives the chance if necessary easily to find an alternative to suppressed radio channels or stations, having bypassed places of "break". It allows to provide a high-quality voice communication, exchange of video and other information and also access to special applications" — the military expert Dmitry Boltenkov told.

In case of need new information networks are capable to provide access to public cellular, cable trunking or to "the military Internet" — to the closed data transmission segment (CDTS) on which the Ministry of Defence sends confidential messages.

Testing of "military Internet"

On August 1, 2019 it became known that the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation tested high-speed lines of information exchange. Based on tests, "the military Internet" provided transmission rate in 300 Mbps between field operations control rooms at distance more than 2 thousand km. The Ministry of Defence used the special equipment and more than 1.5 thousand mobile complexes of communication and enciphering for achievement of such results.

According to experts, all communication channels are reliably protected from cracking and it is impossible to get access to such network from the outside. During testing of "the military Internet" data exchange was provided by the highly protected local wireless network allowing to transfer files of large volume, including an audio-and video information.

During the exercise digital and mobile complexes of a video conferencing of the ISS-P and MK of ZVKS and also the station of space communication P-438-H Belozer were applied. The privacy and data encryption provide high-speed Nickel cryptorouters.

The created network is completely autonomous and has no points of exchange of traffic connecting it with the "external" Internet. All data are ciphered and are transmitted through hardware of the Ministry of Defence that allows to avoid possible leaks. In the long term similar communication lines will allow to organize high-speed transfer practically of any information volume on all territory of the country, specified in the Defense Ministry.

However the main task of such communication channels consists in transfer and data processing for the systems of the automated and fighting management. The modern automated network will allow to obtain data in real time, for example, to monitor fuel reserves and ammunition of specific military equipment.

In 2019 the President RUSSIAN FEDERATION Vladimir Putin signed the so-called law on isolation Runet designed to ensure stable functioning Russian of a segment of the Internet in case of disconnection from worldwide network or coordinated attacks. In June it became known, Russian authorities are not going to create "the sovereign Internet", but will actively protect it from external threats[1].
