Customers: Mobile TeleSystems (MTS)

Moscow; Telecommunications and Communications

Project date: 2021/07

At the end of July 2021, it became known that cell towers in Russia began to power the sun. The implementation of this project was undertaken by MTS.

Telecommunications equipment powered by solar panels has already been installed on Mount Lysoy, Tuapse District, Krasnodar Territory. By the end of the summer of 2021, MTS plans to modernize stations in the Gelendzhik district and next to the Hot Key.

Cell towers in Russia begin to power the sun, MTS will implement the project

MTS will transfer communication facilities to solar energy in remote and inaccessible places in the Krasnodar Territory, where it is impossible to connect base stations to power lines. The use of solar energy is the only way to fully provide sparsely populated villages with mobile Internet.

As MTS Director in the Krasnodar Territory Sergey Laskavy noted, the combined power supply method provides round-the-clock and all-season network operation even in the most inaccessible areas. In this case, there are no difficult issues with the delivery of fuel in bad weather and off-road conditions, as well as significantly reduced maintenance costs for the remote station and minimized harmful emissions from recycled fuel to the environment.

Modern solar energy technologies today allow developing such projects in the south, and we can simultaneously solve issues of digital inequality and optimizing costs when developing networks in such non-commercial places, "he said.

MTS added that thanks to the launch of the first solar facility in the Tuapse region, the village of Sadovoye and a busy section of the railway from Chinara station to Chilipsi towards the sea were provided with cellular communications. The company did not disclose the financial component of this project.[1]
