Installation set up nearly 200 self-service checkouts

Lenta has installed almost 200 self-service cash desks in stores. The company announced this on February 1, 2024.

The company reconstructed cash registers in hypermarkets, where there were no self-service technologies. During the implementation of the project, Lenta tested self-service cash desks of domestic vendors, as foreign manufacturers who supplied equipment left the Russian market. According to the results of the pilot, CSI became a partner of the retail network, whose specialists, based on the wishes of store workers, increased the convenience of working with cash registers and improved the ergonomics of the solution. The reconstruction of self-service areas took place during the operation of retail outlets and did not affect the quality of customer service.

Four to six self-service checkouts were set up in each store. Their number depends on traffic and bandwidth, the calculation is based on a mathematical model. In total, the reconstruction project covered 44 hypermarkets, 191 self-service cash desks with control and weighing platforms were installed to exclude a negative impact on the level of losses. Equipment for independent purchases appeared in 11 stores in Siberia, six hypermarkets in Chelyabinsk and Nizhny Novgorod, in 12 retail outlets in Barnaul, Veliky Novgorod, Krasnodar, Kemerovo, Nizhny Tagil and Omsk.

The company carried out reconstruction in almost 20 percent of hypermarkets, thanks to which the number of self-service checkouts increased by a third. This will allow Lenta to improve customer experience, increase sales and turnover of stores, as well as reduce staff costs.

On January 18, 2024, Lenta announced the introduction of software from the Russian company CSI into its self-service cash desks. We are talking about the application of the Set Retail SCO solution.

According to the press service of Lenta, the retailer is faced with the risk of failure of self-service cash desks due to the departure of their manufacturers from the Russian market. The fact is that the equipment was left without support, maintenance and the possibility of improvement. software

Then Lenta decided to implement Set Retail SCO from CSI. The software has been adapted to the existing type of self-service checkout. At the same time, in most retail outlets, the adaptation process was more difficult, since the former equipment supplier did not leave any technical documentation before leaving the Russian market, as a result, some of the errors were found during testing, Lenta noted.

They emphasized that thanks to the joint work of Lenta and CSI, domestic software was installed before the start of the high sales season. By January 2024, it appeared at the box office in 134 stores of the company.

How much "Lenta" cost import substitution of software in self-service cash desks is not specified. The company only said that the implementation of this project will help the retailer avoid the cost of buying new equipment. Some of the payment stations are retrofitted with pedestals and launched as full-fledged Set Retail SCO software.

Earlier, Lenta began introducing TwinFlow self-service cash desks and Lenta-SCAN technologies. As part of the project, about 50 manual scanners for customers were installed in participating stores. They allow you to independently scan all goods inside the store and immediately pack them - as a result, it remains only to pay for purchases at the self-service checkout, which significantly speeds up the purchase process.[1]

2021: Introduction of self-payment technologies

On June 1, 2021, the Lenta retail chain announced the opening of one of the Moscow supermarkets after the reconstruction and offered customers changes with which purchases will be even faster and more pleasant. The store has a Click & Collect order desk, an Express Shopping area has been allocated. Self-payment technologies appeared not only in the cash line, but also - for the first time - in a cafe inside the store.

Independent purchases are preferred by 30% store buyers, the average purchase time is 1.5 minutes. Cash desks on the self-service island are ready to accept up to 45% of the entire store load.

It was impractical to equip a cash register with a cashier with a small flow of buyers in this zone, therefore, as a solution to the problem, Lenta is testing the CSI K self-payment station.

The buyer activates the menu, selects goods from the pick list or finds by category, confirms the order - and pays with a bank card. The check is printed.

  • With this check, he can get the product from the seller (if the product is from the bakery range or it is an open kitchen dish),
  • just saves the check if you bought ready meals and drinks from the counter.

If necessary, a notification for the consultant is displayed at the top of the CSI K screen - a flashing red bar, similar to the "traffic lights" at classic SCO cash registers.

Paying for small purchases immediately in a cafe, buyers not only solve their problem, but also unload the main cash desks along the way.

The same CSI K devices are installed as part of the store's cash line - like self-service checkouts for those who like to shop without a queue.

You can scan goods yourself, on the trading floor using selfscan, and at the exit from the store - read the QR code on the cash register screen and pay with a bank card. The second option is to scan all goods directly with a cash register scanner, which is convenient for small purchases. The average time to make a purchase is 1.5 minutes, even without a selfscan terminal (faster with it).

In total, the store has 10 cash desks for June 2021, including 4 SCO (self-checkout) cash desks. According to analysts, CSI the self-service island is ready to take on 40-45% of the load - this reduces the cost retailer of PHY and increases the throughput of the store.

Only one consultant assistant is enough for 4 SCO cash desks.

When the CSI K is installed as a self-service cash desk, it is equipped with an additional surface. Shelves are made separately, depending on the retailer's wishes for their appearance.

All CSI Ks run Set SCOs - part of the Set Retail cash system to run on self-service devices.

In the cafe - one interface, on the cash line - another. It is easily customized, the developer regularly makes optimizations, including through feedback from the Lenta network.

CSI K payment stations have been tested in Lenta stores since September 2020 in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
