Description of a warehouse

TSG "Smith" locates own retail chain stores and also two warehouse complexes for wholesale and retail shipments within the city of Ulan-Ude. These two warehouse complexes service in the amount more than 4,000 order lines on shipment and execute 17,000 warehouse transactions daily, including acceptance, placement, selection, inventory, feed and movement.

The wholesale warehouse complex integrates three buildings with a total area of storage of 12,000 sq.m. Basic purpose of a complex – service of wholesale clients and replenishment action in own shops. The nomenclature is shipped by pallets or packagings. All piece selection and shipment are executed from a retail warehouse complex in the territory of which 9 warehouse, with the total area of 2,800 sq.m., differing with temperature storage conditions and types rack constructions are located. The vast majority of the serviced orders are retail sales to individuals directly from a warehouse.

Results of Implementation

On the project all features of work of TSG "SMIT" were most considered and it gave the following effect of implementation:

• completely on-line data exchange with a corporate system is organized that allowed to implement the user-friendly interfaces of sales managers and operators of a warehouse containing data at the same time from two systems;
• speed of a complete set of orders increased twice due to use in the system of mechanisms of zoning of a warehouse: in a wholesale warehouse four work areas on a class of turnover of goods, and in a retail warehouse – nine work areas on nomenclature groups and labor input of processing are selected;
• preparation of tasks for a warehouse demands from the operator at least efforts and time: when entering number of the delivery note or the check drawn from a corporate system, TopLog WMS automatically loads the order, controls its necessary parameters, plans selection, breaks a task on work areas and prints a necessary set of documents on the printer near the operator. All process takes no more than 10 seconds;
• in a system the multiple operation modes considering a possibility of failures of the different equipment are implemented: all warehouse transactions can be executed using the data collection terminals (DCT), on paper carriers or on the mixed technology of work when paper tasks are issued and come to the end on scanning of a personal barcode of the warehouse worker without participation of the operator;
• the problem with goods which are on sale and processed in different units of measure (for example, the ceramic tile is on sale in sq.m, and it is processed in a warehouse in pieces and packagings) is solved, now it is considered at issue of tasks for a warehouse and synchronization with a corporate system.

Project Progress

The project of automation was divided into two large stages. The first stage – start of a retail warehouse complex using the data collection terminals (DCT). This phase was completely completed by specialists TopLog (byvsh. Logiton) it was also complete at the beginning of August, 2007. Aggregate term of start of a system from the moment of agreement signature made 1.5 months.

The second stage consisted in replication of a system on a wholesale warehouse complex which was put in operation in the fall of 2007. The openness of the solution TopLog WMS and a possibility of its fast setup allowed IT service TSG "SMIT" to conduct independently replication of a system on a wholesale warehouse complex in the minimum terms (less than one month) with remote support from TopLog company. At the moment in a system 30 users at the same time work, including 15 users of the shipping documentation.
