Netezza - division of IBM - announces the output of the new device for analytical calculations (BI) which can process to the 10th petabyte of data "in a few minutes". It is expected that the company will announce it during the Enzee Universe conference in Boston today.
The product of vendor is High Capacity Appliance, is intended for such companies as banks, operators of the telecommunications and other organizations accumulating constantly growing amounts of data and persons interested to receive their profound understanding. It is necessary for achievement of competitive advantages, more effective work and also profit increase at development of the new directions in business. HCA will be available in several configurations.
This solution of Netezza company - the first technology innovation which is released since September of last year. Netezza positions itself with economically more effective and easy products in installation as an alternative, competing with such solutions as Exadata of Oracle.
Dan Ingle, the vice president of Kelley Blue Book company for internal analytics, told that his company is going to estimate a new solution. The firm implements to buyers price information on new and used cars. He explained that he for processing of a huge number of price information, statistics of KBB uses the machine Netezza TwinFin 6 with the software of analytical calculations from SAS Institute. Work, is complicated by the fact that sources of data on cars are not standardized.
The company obtains data on cars prices from the most different sources, including from "a big auction", he told. But the exact analysis of pricing and the forecast for the specific car requires more, than just year of release, the brand and model. In given from an auction of sales options and amendments on a specific car can be lowered that can affect the price, he told.
KBB focused on the analysis of a large number of data on routes which is generated by visitors of its website. The most part of these these routes is placed in the Adobe Omniture system now, Ingl told. He noted that KBB wants to analyze this information in search of new sources of monetization, but expects that the additional capacities provided by a new solution from Netezza will be required.
KBB left to Netezza from a stack of analytical programs Microsoft BI (Business Intelligence) and asked the price to Exadata from Oracle before stopped the choice on Netezza, added Ingl. According to him, Exadata though showed performance, similar Netezza, the last won because of lower cost, the facilitated installation and maintenance.
"I agree with advertizing about simplicity of this set. The control of this device occupied me less than a half of the working day", - Ingl emphasized.
Though it is obvious that Netezza gives pleasure to some clients, its products resist in the market to products of such companies as Oracle, EMC, Teradata and Hewlett-Packard which purchased the developer of data warehouses Vertica recently.
The CEO of Netezza Jim Baum told that acquisition of Vertica was "interesting", but HP there is not enough identity as to software provider of analytics. "So will not go: here the database and I am going to connect this base with my equipment, here the ready device. All this is not so simple, - he emphasized. - Though Netezza competes with Oracle "face to face", Exadata "it is well implemented for some workloads, but not loadings of analytics at which we are aimed".
He also noticed that Exadata Oracle - the competitive force with which it is necessary to reckon in it is not present doubts. However the biggest advantage Netezza, according to him, that now it in structure IBM. Behind it all power of the Blue giant, noted Baum.
