IDGC of VolgaTritec of Infosistems JSC " with assistance of the company completed the project of deployment of a dynamic data processing center based on products Windows Server 2008 R2 and System Center.
Vision
"For IDGC of Volga ensuring regular power supply of end consumers is crucial. It means need to ensure smooth operation of all business processes and as much as possible to reduce time of the planned and unplanned idle times of IT systems for IT department. Virtualization which allows to place on one server of several isolated services helps to solve this difficult problem and if necessary to transfer them to other hosts. It helps to avoid scheduled downtimes in holding time of physical servers and also as fast as possible to recover customer service at failure of the equipment. As the virtualization platform we selected Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor. As showed our researches of the solutions proposed in the market, it offers good performance and allows to unroll the virtualization clusters providing the high level of availability of virtual machines without additional costs", - Sergey Yuryevich Bozhko, the head of department of IT infrastructure of department of UIRIT of JSC IDGC of Volga told.
Solution
Migration of the existing services on a virtualization cluster with support of dynamic transfer of virtual machines (Live Migration) was carried out using System Center Virtual Machine Manager which also provides convenient centralized operation with the virtualization environment.
During the project System Center Configuration Manager and System Center Operations Manager are unrolled. With their help monitoring of the existing servers is carried out to predict failure of software and the equipment, and to manage configurations and changes. They are also used for centralized operation by workstations and remote problem solving which arise at users. It considerably saves time of IT specialists, releasing it for development of IT infrastructure – on average time for service of one service was already reduced by 50%.
Results
In a project deliverable of IDGC of Volga did without purchase of additional servers at rather big increase in volume of solvable tasks. Moreover, it was without serious consequences withdrawn from circulation about 20% of "obsolete" servers. At the same time the power reserve of servers of virtualization will allow to continue to unroll the new services necessary to business, without buying the additional hardware. The number of virtual machines per physical host without the resources selected with each virtual machine is about 8:1 already now. Taking into account emergence of dynamic memory allocation in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 in the company are going to increase this digit up to 10 or 12:1. The average time necessary of service of one service, was reduced by 50%.
Opinion
"According to representatives of IDGC of Volga, users did not even notice the moment of transition to a cluster, everything occurred quickly and without interruption in work. It is very important at deployment of the virtualized environments of support of business and critical applications", - Vasily Malanin, the product manager for DPC of Microsoft in Russia noted.
