R3 also includes new mechanisms for centralized power management, with which specialists can monitor systems running Windows 7, Vista and XP and configure power consumption parameters. The product provides the ability to create power management policies (valid throughout the organization or for individual machines) and helps minimize electrical power consumption during periods of PC downtime.
For enterprises using Windows Mobile, R3 includes licenses to use Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager. The current version of System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 Service Pack 1 supports Windows Mobile 6.1-based devices. Microsoft representatives also clarify that some Windows Mobile smartphone models cannot be updated to Windows Phone 7.
Configuration Manager 2007 generally ensures that the IT system meets the required configuration to improve system security and performance. Product functionality enables you to deploy and update clients, servers, and mobile devices in physical, virtual, and mobile environments. The technologies used by the solution (Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Windows Server Active Directory and Windows architecture) provide complete control and management of the IT environment.
The developers call R3 the foundation for the new version of Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010, which should be released later in 2010 and is currently available in beta.
