Biography

1995-2005: Work in RealNetworks

From 1995 to 2005, Adam Selpisky worked for RealNetworks, a company offering software and services in the field of broadcasting media content over the Internet. Before leaving the RealNetworks, he was vice president in charge of SuperPass and RealPlayer products, as well as customer support.

2016: Appointment as Head of Tableau Software

On August 22, 2016, Tableau Software, a manufacturer of data visualization and analysis software, announced the appointment of Adam Selipsky as the company's new president and CEO.

49-year-old Selipski replaced 44-year-old Christian Chabot, who is one of the founders of Tableau. Shabo will remain chairman of the company's board of directors and will continue to "help the company in terms of long-term strategy and client evangelism," The Wall Street Journal reports.

Tableau is among the business software manufacturers that have failed to meet investors' expectations. From the beginning of 2016 to August 22, shares of the company fell 42%.

UBS Group analyst Brent Thill says Tableau has good technology, but the company is having trouble entering into large and complex deals with large corporations. The expert hopes that Selipski's experience at Amazon will help Tableau solve this problem.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), in which Selipsky worked for about 11 years, is both a partner and a competitor to Tableau. AWS offers a tool for analyzing QuickSight data, which, according to Selipsky, is aimed at niche customers who want to realize more opportunities.[1]

2021: Appointment as AWS CEO

On March 23, 2021, Amazon announced the appointment of Adam Selipsky as the new CEO of its subsidiary Amazon Web Services (AWS), which specializes in cloud services. The former head of Tableau Software will officially begin new duties in the third quarter.

As head of Amazon Web Services, Adam Selipsky changes Andy Yassi, who moves to Amazon CEO instead of Jeff Bezos. The latter will remain in the company as executive chairman and will continue to participate in the activities of Amazon.

According to The Wall Street Journal, during his time at Amazon Web Services, Selipsky worked closely with Yassi and was one of the key top managers who helped build the cloud business as it is by March 2021.

Under the leadership of Yassi, AWS demonstrated high growth rates for almost 20 years and turned into a business with a turnover of more than $50 billion per year, which accounts for more than half of Amazon's revenue.

Selipski led the team that created the first visual interface for AWS. He is one of the few executives who left Amazon to lead other companies.

Selipski has remained president and chief executive officer of Tableau since the sale of this company to Salesforce. Mark Nelson, who joined Tableau as executive vice president of product development in 2018 from SAP-owned Concur, where he was technical director, will become the new head of Tableau, a Salesforce spokesman told CNBC on March 23, 2021. According to a TV channel source close to Salesforce, Nelson has already begun a new job, and Selipsky will return to Amazon on May 17.[2]
