  • 41-year-old Stephen Van Rokel joined administration of U.S. President almost right after Barack Obama inauguration in 2009, having taken a position of the managing director of the Federal commission of the USA on communication (FCC). At this position he could turn the commission into one of the innovation State departments which are actively using modern technologies writes ReadWriteWeb.

"the rock fir-tree was introduced in FCC by mentality of .com, including strategy according to which "everything should be API" (i.e. interaction with the database of the commission and its services should be performed using special user-friendly interfaces of programming)", - the correspondent of O'Reilly Radar Alexander Howard writes. In addition, in the period of its management the microblog on Twitter of @FCC which nowadays is the most interactive and informative in the federal government was open.

  • In August, 2011 it became known that Steven Van Roekel is elected the new federal information technologies director of the USA. Now he should direct the annual budget in $80 billion - U.S. authorities spend for IT more, than any corporation.

Rokel should continue initiatives of the sovy predecessor, including folding of 800 data centers by 2015, and some and, perhaps, to review. A considerable part of work of Vivek Kundra was occupied by transfer of the U.S. Government on cloud platforms, however this initiative caused both positive reviews, and disapproval. It was not pleasant to much that Kundra "puts all eggs in one basket" and that if there is a large failure, all infrastructure of the USA will be paralyzed.

Acceleration of rates of the innovative development and increase in efficiency of IT infrastructure - i.e. increase in capacity of resources with simultaneous decrease in capital and current costs will become one of the central tasks of Rokel. According to the deputy of Administrative and budget management of the USA Jeffrey Zients, now the annual growth of productivity in a state machinery is 1.5% that is approximately four times lower in comparison with the private sector. Therefore it should be made still a lot of things in this direction.
