In Cabinet of curiosities Raidix storage system is implemented

Customers: Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Cabinet of curiosities)

Contractors: Raidix
Product: AVRORA
Second product: Raidix DWH

Project date: 2011/03  - 2017/02

2017

On March 21, 2017 the Raidix company announced continuation license renewal on technical support and maintenance of the hardware and software system Raidix (DWH) AERO in Peter the Great Museums of Anthropology and Ethnography (Cabinet of curiosities) of RAS.

The software-defined technology of Raidix working on the normal server hardware allowed to reach optimal price relation and performance for the customer without the need for implementation of the industrial systems of class "A".

Provided to software of Raidix fault tolerance and optimal speed of calculations. In this project the Raidix company used RAID 7.3 array with threefold distribution of parity based on mathematical algorithms of own development. RAID 7.3 differs in the increased performance as each disk of an array processes I/O requests independently, allowing to get data access in the parallel mode. RAID 7.3 maintains a total failure of three disks in one group.

Besides, the software technology as a part of DWH includes a search mechanism and elimination of the hidden errors on hard drives and function of partial reconstruction (only a part of a disk with the damaged data is reconstructed).

Use of Raidix (DWH) AERO within IT infrastructure of the museum allowed to provide fast data processing, high availability of documentation and a multimedia content, smooth operation of a hardware and software system and expense reduction on support of DWH.

2011

The St. Petersburg Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Cabinet of curiosities) complemented the data processing center with a storage system of high performance on the basis of the software of AVRORA.

Yury Chistov, the director of Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography, comments: "We consider information technologies an important factor of development of the modern museum. We regularly implement projects on automation of different processes, databases are created and develop. We pay much attention also to multimedia projects for visitors. Therefore to us existence of the IT infrastructure capable to provide implementation of all these tasks is important".

Transferred to the museum DWH it is constructed on 12 hard drives with a general formatted capacity of 1.5 TB. A system is equipped with Fibre Channel interface 8Gb and intended for connection to the selected SAN network or directly to the server. The distinctive feature of the solution consists in high data processing rate. Performance of DWH reaches 1200 Mbps.

The high-performance storage system is constructed on the basis of AVRORA software using conventional server components. Thanks to existence of standard hardware component parts the most optimal ratio of performance and cost of storage was reached.

"In such large museum what the Cabinet of curiosities is, it is very important to pay considerable attention to information storage, - Razumovsky Sergey Gennadyevich, the CEO of AvroRAID says. – Transfer of archives in an electronic form, creation of multimedia of products considerably is increased by the needs for storage systems and requirements to them. At the same time DWH should not be expensive in service".

Earlier the AvroRAID company transferred storage systems on the basis of the software of AVRORA to the Maryinsky Theater and Sampsoniyevsky cathedral.
