In 2009 it became clear that we lack transparency in plant operation: too much time had to be spent on meetings and discussions, our divisions lagged behind on interaction time with each other, there was no operation mode online. Having analyzed the situation which developed on MTZ TRANSMASH we made the decision on project implementation on implementation of the integrated ERP system for integrated management of internal and external resources of the enterprise, for us it was the big step to the future. The beginning of works on this project demanded upgrade of our IT infrastructure which was separated into four stages: choice of the supplier; carrying out complex audit; development of strategy of upgrade; upgrade of IT infrastructure.
At start of any project it is very important to select correctly service provider, the project success in general will depend on it. Our enterprise was guided by several criteria: long-term history of partnership; presence of highly qualified specialists; personal approach to the customer (uniform point of entry, personal manager); experience in implementation of similar projects; operational problem solving; human factor (adequacy and vivacity of communication).
It was important to find such company which will be engaged in all directions independently. Our choice fell on the old partner — DEPO Computers. DEPO Computers since 2009 implements projects on system integration, creating flexible solutions at all infrastructure levels, since hardware platforms. This flexibility and powerful production base and also competences were necessary to us.
The project started with audit. Technical specialists of DEPO Computers booked full-scale audit of IT infrastructure, revealed all problem places which could interfere with implementation of our plans, and developed IT development strategy. Within the project audit of the main IT systems was booked: hardware-software solutions, communication infrastructure, management systems and control. Based on audit the report which allowed to estimate a current status of IT infrastructure was created and to reveal bottlenecks for upgrade and the subsequent IT development within the selected strategy.
Having received the current cut on an IT infrastructure status, specialists of the company offered migration of IT services TRANSMASHA on a cloud (virtual) computing platform that increased reliability, availability and controllability of the solution. Our partner has experience of implementation of all leading cloud platforms — VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix, XEN, OpenStack. We considered all these solutions, as a result selected Hyper-V providing optimum performance of our current services which are already working on physical machines.
The project on ERP system implementation was also accompanied by serious and laborious work which was conducted for two years in two directions. First, we visited large machine-building plants where ERP SAP was implemented or was implemented at the time of our arrival, with the purpose to adopt practical experience of our colleagues, to reveal main advantages and defects of a system, and then to build the own action plan for further work, to reveal possible risks. Secondly, active work with specialists of our enterprise, with people who directly had to participate in the project was conducted. As it appeared, it was one of the most difficult moments as at everyone the idea and understanding of assigned tasks was had. To convince all of need ERP system implementation, it was necessary to find convincing arguments and it is correct to convey information. We acted with two methods: independently and using the invited consultants from SAP who told Top managers and key users about the program, its advantages and defects.
I want to note especially that without support of the CEO you should not have been engaged in this project. It is very important that the first person was interested and aimed at the end result.
I am very happy with result which we achieved on MTZ TRANSMASH: much and for a short period was made. In three quarters 2011 we created technical support service, created the structured cabling system (SCS), constructed a corporate private cloud on the basis of Microsoft Hyper-V, performed migration of IT services in virtual infrastructure, upgraded a directory service of the Active Directory and a mail service of Microsoft Exchange, implemented solutions for data backup.
Analyzing our cooperation with DEPO Computers company in general, I understand that everyday joint work which was conducted and conducted allowed us to solve those problems which we could consider only in far perspective, understanding that they are very expensive and large-scale. Now those solutions which we implement, relying on experience of our partner, correspond to the level of IT services.
Presently it is very important to be able to manage assets of the enterprise, to competently resolve the issues connected with payback, with maintenance in current status of rather large volume of resources. The ultimate goal of development of IT infrastructure of MTZ TRANSMASH is formulated within the strategy of ITSM, it consists in transition from traditional management model to the scheme focused on full participation of IT department in all business processes. It is already absolutely new and beautiful work of IT at the enterprise. I with pride can tell that we gradually reach managements of IT assets level. It is healthy. This advance.
