History of development

2017: Name change

In October 2017, ConsID renamed Open Source the HH product.WMS (OHE.WMS) в ConsID WMS.

2015: OHE.WMS v4.2 release released

On October 22, 2015, Consult Technologies announced the release of OHE.WMS v4.2.

Developing the functionality of the system, the developers added the following features:

Group Templates for Warehouse Master Objects

The ability to manage user, hardware, and topology characteristics based on group templates.

At large distribution and distribution centers, with a large number of employees and loading equipment, it is important to manage users in the context of user groups (with configured access rights and characteristics for groups).

The use of group templates allows you to reduce the time and number of errors associated with changing all the characteristics of the user, equipment, cells, etc. To add another warehouse employee, it is enough to create personal data and select a group template of settings that correspond to the position of the employee, then the system will automatically create all the main links to zones, a list of available equipment, business processes, etc.

The use of group templates for the warehouse topology also significantly reduces the complexity of creating and changing the address space and practically eliminated the occurrence of errors when reconfiguring the address space.

Change of menu access rights WEB and shipping documentation transferred to WEB Dispatch in administrator functions

WMS Flexible Control Mechanism for Stock Movements

The OHE.WMS solution helps you manage more than 10 parameters when searching for storage space. For optimal storage in the warehouse during movements, you must follow the recommendations of the system. But sometimes the recommendations need to be violated. What to do in this case? On the one hand, the rules are violated, on the other, it is impossible to put the goods in the recommended cell due to objective reasons (the cell is full, the cell is blocked for any reason, etc.).

OHE.WMS v4.2 offers a universal mechanism that allows you to manage the characteristics of cell search to place and control the placement of goods in cells, based on preset rules. The logist can select those characteristics that require mandatory compliance by the warehouse employee and those that are advisory in nature. Thus, when searching for a storage location, all characteristics will be taken into account, and when monitoring the placement of goods in a cell, only a part.

This makes it possible to more flexibly control the movement of goods, eliminate defragmentation in the warehouse as much as possible and achieve more optimal use of space in the warehouse.

Introduction of the Inventory Compatibility Matrix

The new release introduces the ability to manage warehouse storage based on compatibility groups. OHE.WMS v4.2 allows you to create stock compatibility rules in the warehouse (compatibility matrix). The introduction of the product compatibility matrix allows you to exclude the possibility of storing and moving incompatible goods in one cell/in one pallet place.

Inventory compaction mechanism

A compaction mechanism has been added to the system that allows you to analyze warehouse defragmentation based on various characteristics and create tasks for the movement of goods. As a result of this mechanism, tasks are created for consolidating the article in storage bins in order to minimize defragmentation of inventory in the warehouse.

"Shipping Modules" Management

You have entered a new business object, the shipping module. A shipping module is a universal box (transport medium) that can contain several cargo locations of different shipping orders that are picked in the same customer or different customers of the same delivery point.

This shipping capability is useful if you receive many small orders of the same type from one customer. In this case, all these orders are consolidated into one unit to be shipped, the "shipping module." Then they are processed and shipped as a whole.

In addition to the existing options for shipping orders: by order, by flights, by directions, a new possibility of shipping orders has been added - by Shipping Modules. At the stage of checking orders, Shipping Modules (transport carriers) are generated from several cargo places of the same direction before shipment. At shipment, shipment control is performed by shipping modules. In the shipping variant by shipping modules, partial order shipping can be realized.

2013: Open Source HH.WMS (OHE.WMS)

The solution is designed to automate warehouses of finished products, responsible storage, during production, as well as distribution centers. Warehouse automation is built on the basis of bar identification of goods and bins and the use of mobile data collection terminals (hereinafter referred to as shipping documentation) for warehouse operations.

The solution is designed in accordance with modern software development technologies (SOA,.NET platform), which allows it to be classified as adaptive solutions for warehouse automation. The Warehouse Management System (WMS ) logic is configured.

This makes it possible without programming:

  • flexibly modify existing business processes
  • develop new
  • Develop application configuration from scratch to meet customer requirements

The main goals of the Open Source HH.WMS are to increase warehouse performance, accuracy of warehouse operations, optimization of personnel and equipment.

OHE.WMS objectives are achieved through the following innovative approaches to warehouse management systems

  • Single Open OHE Development Platform - allows you to expand and complement the required functionality without programming
  • Business Logic Contractors - Allows you to quickly and flexibly configure business processes
  • Large number of business process templates
  • Availability of industry-ready solutions
  • Minimum Cost of Ownership

The ability to configure the warehouse management system allows our customers to have a flexible system that can meet all warehouse logistics needs. The solution is focused both on companies that often have a change in business processes, and with established business processes.

For the first type of customers, the use of a management system for warehouse automation will allow the introduction of new technologies by a team of in-house specialists without pain, without stopping business processes.

For the second, we configure our system for the required business processes and provide a complete cycle of implementation and support of the warehouse management system.

The following development tools are used to change process logic and add, new web forms, web reports, terminal application forms:

  • Open Source HH.WEB (constructor for web reports)
  • Open Source HH.Mobile

The use of built-in (visual) development tools in the warehouse management system allows you to reduce the implementation time of the solution and use the phased implementation of business processes. So, depending on the complexity of the solution, the average time for the implementation of the warehouse automation project is 3-6 months.

Working with Weighing and Measuring Goods in the Warehouse Management System OHE.WMS

At distribution and distribution centers and warehouses during production, it very often becomes necessary to keep records of goods not only in types of packaging (pieces, boxes, pallets) but also in weight and dimensional (square meters, linear meters) storage units:

  • in food warehouses, these are tasks of accounting for frozen products, cheese and dairy, which must be taken into account both in package types and in weight units.
  • in fruit-and-vegetable warehouses it is required to record products not only in packages (boxes, bags, packages), but also in kilograms.
  • In material warehouses, these are tasks of accounting for rolls with linolium not only in rolls, but also in linear or square meters, ceramic tiles not only in packages, but also in square meters, bags with cement and mixtures not only in packages, but also in kilograms. Barrels and cans with liquids, in addition to accounting in packages, must be taken into account in liters.
  • in the warehouses of woven products, rolls with fabric must be taken into account, in addition to packages, also in linear meters or square meters
  • in warehouses of electric-technical products of the bay with a cable, except for the types of packaging, it is also necessary to take into account in linear meters

An additional task when working with a measuring and weighing product is to make cuts, that is, to separate part of the product from the package.

The weight and measured goods can be roughly divided into the following groups:

  • A weight item with a fixed value. This is an article whose storage unit has a constant storage unit weight. The error of this weight (measure) is insignificant and may not be taken into account. This group of goods, for example, includes cheese in 300 g cut, sausages of 1 kg in packaging.
  • Weighted (dimensional) article with a non-fixed value. This is a commodity that has an average weight (measure) of the storage unit, but the value of the average weight (measure) can fluctuate within a given value (for example, 10% of the average weight). For example, it could be a box of fruit. Bag with potatoes, carrots.
  • Weight (measured) item, with variable value without weight norm (measure). This product weight (measure) of the storage unit of which can vary within 20-50% of the average weight (measure), so the value of the average weight (measure) is very vague and cannot be used. An example of this type of product is meat products, vegetables in stands, rolls with fabric, rolls with linoleum, coils with cable, etc.

Let's consider how you can track the weight of an article in a warehouse for the groups of articles indicated above, using the example of working with a weighted article in product warehouses.

It should be replaced that many WMS warehouse management systems do not like to work with the weight and measure goods or do not do so as the Customer needs, and some simply do not support the work with the weight and measure goods according to the data structure. Therefore, integrators have to use non-standard approaches to track the weight of goods, and logistics from the warehouse come up with schemes to simplify work with such groups of goods or process them outside WMS.

Why do you need to take into account the weight of the goods in the warehouse? After all, it is much easier and faster to process goods in packages without taking into account weight (measures).

Most warehouses enter weight accounting, since they are calculated with suppliers by weight (or other unit of measure) or customers purchase products by weight, so the warehouse should always have an up-to-date product weight.

When working with a weight product, it is often necessary to take into account the percentage that is spent on drying the product.

For a variety of products, such as vegetables, fruit cannot be stored without weight.

Handling a fixed weight item = = = This group of goods is the simplest of the weights, because when working with it, you can ignore the errors in the deviation of the average weight of the storage unit (box). Typically, weight processing of a given group of goods is reduced to setting up the interaction between the WMS and the ERP system with the ability to transfer the weight as the average weight of the storage unit with the conversion of the expected weight into package types and vice versa. If you want to take into account the weight for a given merchandise group, you enter a separate palletizing operation at the inbound and outbound end of the warehouse. This is usually typical for finished product warehouses during production.

Handling a Non-Fixed Weight Item

This item group is more complex than the previous one for warehouse processing because it requires up-to-date item weight data for each item or for a collection of items. For goods stored in package types (pieces, boxes, pallets), weight is additionally taken into account.

Typically, goods of this group arrive at the warehouse from suppliers in the form of boxes with the specified weight of each box, for example, tangerines, bananas, etc. But for the supplier, the reporting characteristic is the weight of the goods, and the warehouse works with it by weight.

You can treat this item type as a fixed weight item, but then there will be an error in the actual weight of the item and the paid vendor. It's good if the percentage of error fits into the norm, and if not?

In this case, you want to accept the item with weight fixing.

In this case, according to the warehouse management system, depending on the settings during acceptance, the weight from each box of goods can be scanned, or the total weight of a homogeneous pallet or a set of goods can be entered.

In WMS storage, in addition to the number of boxes in the pallet, the total weight of the pallet or set of goods is taken into account. Depending on the requirements for the processing of a weighted article, an additional attribute, weight, can be requested on various movement operations (transfer, replenishment, adjustment). This complicates the processing of this group of goods, but allows you to always know in real time the weight of the goods in each cell and accurately control how much the goods are actually selected by weight for the buyer of the goods.

When selecting a weight product with a non-fixed weight, depending on the WMS settings, the weight of each box may be requested (if the weight of the product is indicated), so during the selection we can know exactly what weight of the product is selected, which remained on the pallet.

If there is no box weight on a non-fixed weight item, then no additional weight attribute is asked during the selection, and the weight of the item is written off based on the average weight of the box (weight allowance). In this case, we get the approximate weight of the product from which the selection was carried out, but speed up the selection process. In this case, we can find out the exact weight of the shipped goods at the workplace of the sorter who prepares the order for shipment - by weighing. At the stage of verification, sorting the weight product is weighed articularly on the scales, providing accurate weight data for each shipped product.

The WMS Warehouse Management System can be easily configured to enter weight at different control points, e.g., Acceptance - Pick, Acceptance - Check, Acceptance - Shipment, Acceptance Only, etc.

Weight item, with variable value without weight limit

The weight for a given article group can be taken into account in different ways in the warehouse management system:

  • The product is taken into account as a weight directly in kilograms, additional types of packages and storage units are not maintained.
  • The product is considered as a weight directly in kilograms, but is processed in the warehouse in the section of pallets. I.e. one pallet contains 1000 kg. Beef, excluding the number of carcasses.

In this case, the product is treated as a standard weight, and when working with it, the operator is always asked to enter the weight in kilograms. The difficulty of this product handling is that the WMS system cannot divide the weight by carcasses, since it is not known how many of them are physically stored in the cell. This approach can only be applied if the goods are fully shipped from the bin or a pallet label with a unique number marks each storage unit.

If the goods can be partially shipped from the cell, then it is better to use the technology of working as a product with a non-fixed weight with weight control on all operations.

If you are working with a weight article with pallet tracking, you must also set up all operations so that the minimum shipping unit is pallet.

It is desirable to use the above technology of working with a group without a weight limit where it will be effective and it is necessary otherwise to better use the technology of working with a product with an unfixed weight and weight control at the processing points of the product.

Integration with weights when working with a weight product

When working with a weighing product in a warehouse, electronic scales can be used at the processing points of the goods. Floor scales are used at acceptance and shipment to control the weight of pallets with goods. Electronic scales can be used to control and mark a single product or a combination of homogeneous goods.

Depending on the class of weights:

  • it is possible to print bar labels of goods with indication of weight;
  • output of weight on electronic annunciator is available;
  • data transfer via the interface (com-port, usb, ethernet, etc.) to external systems is possible;
  • synchronization with WMS and mobile data collection terminals is possible.
