The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) selected Convergent infrastructure of HP as the platform of upgrade

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) selected Convergent infrastructure of HP as the platform of upgrade of 15 departments worldwide. HP solutions will help this largest charitable foundation to remain on an edge of technical progress and to correspond to calls of tomorrow.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is the leading world charitable organization which purpose – to promote the conservation of biodiversity of our planet. For decades of work the fund became the organizer of a set of the programs designed to draw public attention to current environmental problems.

The main data processing center of fund in piece Massachusetts (USA) could not support the growing requirements of the organization. It was located in the small premises and was very limited in respect of resources of a power supply and cooling. Technology infrastructure of DPC also required updating.

For the solution of these tasks the administration of fund addressed HP as to the old technology partner. As a result the fund selected service division of HP of Technology Services as the contractor for relocation of the DPC to new, more modern premises which received the gold certificate of LEED recently. The project was implemented in the shortest possible time. On migration more than 40 HP servers of ProLiant and other elements of infrastructure left less than 24 hours. Besides, the unified environment of control of all IT equipment of DPC was organized.

The new data processing center of fund is equipped with HP servers of Integrity RX2620 and RX6600 running HP-UX OS which support key applications of the organization now (including the database of sponsors, the internal portal, the mail server and finance applications of Oracle).

HP servers of ProLiant DL380 G7 with enhanced capabilities of virtualization, ensure reliable functioning of regional departments in Canada, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

These high-end servers will help to process effectively statistics of donations and will provide effective interaction with the sponsors participating in the IFAW projects. Regional departments of fund, each of which now the ProLiant HP dedicated server, will be able quickly to obtain necessary information from a data processing center in the USA. Besides, new HP servers of ProLiant in the headquarters of fund will help to save the electric power and will serve as the great platform for future projects of virtualization.

IT infrastructure of fund also includes arrays of HP of Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) which provide storage of quickly growing database of sponsors. They provide the highest efficiency of use of capacity, support work of databases in the round-the-clock mode and, besides, guarantee exclusive flexibility for compliance to requirements of this growing organization. Software of HP of Command View Software simplifies management of arrays, allowing to spend less time for technical support and administration.

Tape drives of HP of Ultrium 448 and 460 provide additional capacity for backup, allowing remote branches to get access to the database quicker. At last, software of HP of Data Protector simplifies security of applications by automation of backup procedures and disaster recovery from disks and tapes.

Within the project of migration the fund also standardized the network infrastructure. As the platform of standardization switches of HP Networking 5400 zl were selected that helped to increase data transfer rate significantly. Infrastructure of fund also includes the HP 2510 and HP 2810 switches that allows to integrate all departments and branches of fund in the uniform ecosystem ready to future calls.
