State unitary enterprise of technical inventory of Murmansk region (Microsoft Hyper-V)

The state unitary enterprise of technical inventory of Murmansk region (GUPTI MO) together with Softline implemented the complex project on creation of virtual IT infrastructure of the organization.

GUPTI MO keeps the state technical account of the real estate located in the territory of Murmansk region, is responsible for formation of information base about accounting items and their administrative-territorial distribution, performs information support of a system of state registration of the rights to real estate and transactions with it. In structure of the enterprise seven branches work.

Creation of convenient and modern management tools IT resources of the enterprise, reduction of the total costs of service of IT, ensuring smooth operation of information services and safety of data was a project objective on upgrade of IT infrastructure and its transfer to virtual environment.

During the project consisting of several stages, specialists Softline booked audit of the existing infrastructure, measured performance measures of its principal components, created a computing cluster and deployed on it the virtualization platform including three Hyper-V 2008 R2 SP1 servers and a management system for System Center Virtual Machine Manager virtual machines. Further migration existing DBMS Microsoft SQL Server in virtual environment was carried out. The physical servers released as a result of the carried-out works were directed to needs of branches of the enterprise. As the physical data warehouse and backup copies of virtual machines it was set and configured DWH NetApp FAS2020.

"The virtualization platform of Microsoft is high-performance and economic means for optimization of infrastructure. It perfectly is suitable both for support of server applications, and for the organization of the environment of virtualization of the VDI PC. The solution of management including means of deep monitoring of systems and applications, backup and installation and software updating allows to simplify considerably service of IT", – Vasily Malanin, the product manager for DPC of Microsoft company says.

Creation of infrastructure of virtual desktops for test operation on the Hyper-V platform was one more project task. The solution Quest vWorkspace was for this purpose used.

"vWorkspace simplifies management of virtual desktops irrespective of organization size. For creation of a new workplace the administrator will need only several minutes. At the same time the solution ensures smooth operation of corporate applications on devices and operating systems of any type", – the consultant of the center of virtualization of Softline company Roman Karnaukhov says.

According to Alexander Mamedov, the Director of information technology and THAT GUPTI MO, transfer of infrastructure to virtual environment allowed to manage far off IT resources of the enterprise, redistributing capacities between different applications, and in general to reduce housekeeping overheads of the computing and engineering equipment. "The main project deliverable – creation of the reliable, modern and flexible infrastructure ensuring smooth operation of all information services of the enterprise. A month later after project implementation it is possible to note acceleration of operation of applications on average for 40% due to flexible distribution of computing resources at the moments of peak loads", – Mamedov Alexander tells.

"Projects on virtualization of infrastructure differ in high degree of an investment payback irrespective of, virtualization in large data center is implemented or is used for consolidation of applications on 3-4 servers, – the head of the Murmansk department of Softline Ruslan Harlashin supervising this project says. – At a stage of approval of the project calculation of cost efficiency, proceeding from equipment housekeeping overheads was provided to GUPTI MO'S guide. On project deliverables performance of applications was also improved and idle times in case of technical failures are minimized".
