In July, 2012 more than 1000 public and municipal vehicles of Sverdlovsk region equipped with the navigation GLONASS/GPS equipment are connected to the regional navigation and information system (RNIS), report in the Ministry of information technologies and communication of area.
In total today 1321 vehicles are connected to a system: 979 units of the road equipment and 342 buses, including – 76 school buses. Significant increase in number of the vehicles connected to RINS happened due to connection to a system not only separate vehicles, but also already functioning navigation systems. Until the end of 2012 all school buses of Sverdlovsk region will be connected to RNIS.
The regional navigation and information system was created by the government of Sverdlovsk region for increase in security and cost efficiency of a transport complex – intercity and school buses and also special equipment including transporting dangerous and large-size loads. A system allows to control routes, operating time of transport and fuel consumption, to fix inappropriate use of vehicles and the most important – accelerates reaction at emergence of emergency situations. In a new system different departments and services of the region work: EDDS of municipalities, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transport.
