High requirements to fault tolerance of IT structure take away VIChYuNAY-GRUPP in "clouds"

Objectives

With growth of the organization and opening of new offices there was a need for upgrade of the existing IT infrastructure as life of the current servers came to an end. With respect thereto to technical department of the company the task to find the platform for placement of corporate data was set. The high fault tolerance, uninterrupted operation of work and a possibility of quick access to resources from all offices of the company in the CIS were the main requirements to infrastructure. Before IT specialists of Baltko there was a choice: achieve fault tolerance using a clustering based on the local equipment or use cloud computing with duplication of data.

"During creation of a cluster it is necessary to remember creation of conditions for creation of the corresponding infrastructure: it is necessary to provide reservation of work of the data warehouse, to organize uninterrupted power supply, to carry out two independent Internet channels, etc. Not to mention that it is necessary to provide in the budget the considerable amounts on creation of such solution. It is possible to place a cluster on the data center platform, but, anticipating the probability of failure in operation of servers and a delay in replacement of the equipment from data center, we were forced to refuse also this option. As soon as it became clear that to create a cluster by own efforts or in data center on the basis of the selected machines it is inexpedient, the decision on removal of infrastructure in a cloud was made. It was necessary to select reliable data center and provider", – Dmitry Frolov, the technical specialist of Baltko LLC says.

Solution

The choice was stopped on a cloud hosting of CloudServer (IaaS) from ActiveCloud by Softline company. Specialists of Baltko highly appreciated the level of technologies, reliability, flexible approach to providing server capacities and a possibility of lease of the software.

The IT department of Baltko tested the ActiveCloud platform and made the decision on lease of server capacities in several data centers located in different regions of the European continent (Russia and Lithuania). Now specialists of the company configure geographically distributed infrastructure of the organization in "clouds", transferring the most critical applications for business there (a mail service, databases, the corporate website).
