The NetWrix company, the supplier of specialized solutions for audit of changes of IT infrastructure, announced in November, 2012 a release of the free program for password management in Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 - NetWrix Password Expiration Notifier 3.2.

In addition to support of Windows Server 2012 / Windows 8, the new version of the program allows to simplify process of management of passwords in technical support service of users:

  • Administrators can receive status reports of passwords of accounts ('the password expires in the nearest future ',' validity period is finished');
  • Users receive notifications not only on expiration of the password, but also validity period of the account;
  • Users receive notifications on need to change the password of an account in 9, 7 and 2 days prior to expiration of the password;
  • Administrators can configure dates of the expiration of passwords, based on the granulated politicians, ignoring at the same time domain a password policy;
  • Support of both trust, and not trust domains is added;
  • The feature to rewrite the Maximum Password Age setup for calculation of date of the expiration of action of the password is added.

Basic purpose of the program – a reminder to users in the domain about need to change the password during the certain time frame.

The program expands regular opportunities of the Windows operating system and gives enhanced capabilities for administrators and service Help Desk for status monitoring of passwords.

One of important features is user support, working far off. In that case when the user has an account of AD only for access to VPN, Outlook Web Access (OWA) and access to files, the possibility of interactive connection is absent, so, also the standard notification from Windows is unavailable to these users.

Using the Plan & Test function administrators can check a configuration and learn how many users will be affected at the planned changes in a password policy. For this purpose it is not necessary neither to distract users, nor to change the AD settings.
