Now the Radar-tracking system (radar station) of protection of perimeter and the territory of objects of Orwell-R is more and more widely used to protection of the airports. In November of this year the Altair company for protection of the Krayny airport (Baikonur spaceport) set 6 Orwell-R radar Stations integrated with video cameras and thermal imagers on rotary platforms. An object is put in operation to the customer – Federal State Unitary Enterprise Center of Operation of Objects of Land Space Infrastructure (Federal State Unitary Enterprise TsENKI).

The efficiency of application of Orwell-R radar Station for protection of the airports becomes more and more obvious as this category of objects is characterized by existence of extended perimeter and the territory with mainly direct optical visibility. Such conditions allow "cover" with several radars all territory of the airport, without resorting to use of the expensive and ineffective traditional systems of protection. Application of Orwell-R radar Station on aviation objects allows to solve new problems which did not manage to be solved the traditional systems, and ensures safety at the new level:

  • Intruder detection on approaches and in the airport

Application of Orwell-R radar Station allows to detect violators already on approaches to an object, to monitor their movement in real time in the territory of all object. Besides, the possibility of detection of the facts of approach and overcoming perimeter directly from the airport territory for the first time appears, to control any activity around a runway, parking of airplanes, taxi tracks, perimeter, etc.

  • Control of appearance of people and animals on the runways (R), protection of aircrafts

Orwell-R radar Station can control not only perimeter and the territory of the airport, but also to automatically detect appearance of people on the runway, approach to aircrafts, etc. At the same time the rotary thermal imagers and video cameras integrated into the radar are automatically directed at the detected purposes about the video information in which automatic mode comes to a security service.

  • Bolshaya Square of detection

The area of detection of one Orwell-R radar Station is up to 7 sq.km. A system has unprecedentedly with a low specific cost of intruder detection at 1 km ². Network function allows to integrate group of radar station, a thermovision and video equipment in network and to display information from all devices on one attendant workstation.

  • Safety of application on aviation objects

Orwell-R radar Station does not influence work of both the onboard, and ground air navigation equipment (are available the corresponding conclusion of Federal State Unitary Enterprise GOSNII Aeronavigation).

  • Frequency of Orwell-R radar Station (17 GHz) does not match frequencies at which onboard and land air navigation complexes work.
  • Level of electromagnetic radiation of Orwell-R radar Station (average about 75 MW) is extremely low and meets health regulations and standards.
  • The antenna of Orwell-R radar Station is directed to a horizontal surface for detection of the land purposes.


Now Orwell-R radar Station is already successfully applied at several airports. A system automatically in real time under any weather conditions detects the purposes (people, vehicles) at distance up to 1.5 km, notifies on it the operator. Integration with a thermovision and video equipment allows to obtain detailed information on the detected purposes.

Application of Orwell-R radar Station is profitable to security of the airports both from economic, and from the technical point of view.
