GM Avtovaz carries out upgrade of domain controllers of corporate network

The Softline company announced on January 14, 2013 project completion for Dzhi Em AvtoVAZ Ltd on replacement of domain controllers based on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.

Tasks

For reliability augmentation of IT infrastructure of the enterprise, the customer makes the decision on its upgrade as as the platform it was used by Windows Server 2003.

The head of IT department of Dzhi EM-AVTOVAZ Ltd Konstantin Rizayev noted: "The main objective of the project was to replace left the main phase of support Windows Server 2003, to minimize risks, to refuse the existing network address space. The decision to update the platform to Windows Server 2008 R2 was for this purpose made. The Softline company having necessary specialization and experience of carrying out similar projects of migration on new platform services Microsoft became the partner in the project".

Solution

Preparatory stage of the project specialists of "Dzhi Em AVTOVAZ" created virtual machines with in advance developed configurations which for further work connected to network. Engineers of department of solutions of Microsoft of Softline company installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on these servers, created backup copies of the current domain controllers (a backup of virtual machines), expanded the scheme Active Directory to the version of Windows Server 2008 R2 as a necessary condition of transition; installed new domain controllers and the accompanying services; configured server roles – DHCP and DNS.

On the next stage specialists of Softline using regular means of Windows Server held testing of replication of a directory service of the Active Directory and created the backup copy of domain controllers. To check operability of a system, the engineer of "Dzhi Em AVTOVAZ" transferred a part of workstations of IT directorate and several noncritical servers to work with new controllers through reconfiguration of the DNS client. Monitoring of work of focal group within a day showed - all services function in the normal mode: authentication of users, authorization, application group the politician is performed. Upon completion of working off of all scenarios the solution is scaled on all users.

Pavel Dugayev, the head of sales of department of solutions of Microsoft of Softline company in Samara, emphasized: "Upon completion of the project the customer received the reliable infrastructure which is based on the modern supported systems, reduced the number of idle times, had new abilities to manage infrastructure using expanded tools of group policy as a part of Windows Server 2008 R2, successfully migrated in a new address space".
