Filippov Vladimir Mikhaylovich

Biography

Was born in the city of Uryupinsk of the Stalingrad region. The father is a serviceman, mother is a nurse.

In 1958-1968 studied at high school No. 2 of A.S. Pushkin, Uryupinsk. Left secondary school with a silver medal.

In 1968-1973 – the student of Peoples' Friendship University of Patrice Lumumba, graduated from faculty of physical and mathematical and natural sciences with honors as "mathematician".

1973-75 – the graduate student of the university. � served 1975-76 in Armed Forces of the USSR.

Career

1976-79 – Chairman of the board of young scientists of the University.

1979-80 – the assistant to department of the higher mathematics of the University.

1980 – protection of the master's thesis at Mathematical institute of V.A. Steklov of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, in the specialty 1/1/01 – "The mathematical analysis", at mathematical school of the academician Nikolsky S.M. (the research supervisor – the corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR, prof. Kudryavtsev L.D.).

1980-87 – the chief of Scientific management of the University.

1983-84 – scientific work in the field of mathematics at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium).

1985-2000 – the head of the department of the mathematical analysis of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.

December, 1989 – June, 1993 – the dean of faculty of physical and mathematical and natural sciences of RUDN.

June, 1993 - September, 1998 – the rector of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.

September, 1998 – March, 2004 – The Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, as a part of four Governments of the Russian Federation.

April, 2004 – March, 2005 – the assistant to the Russian Prime Minister (in the fields of education and cultures).

Since 2000 – the present (on January 16, 2013) – the head of the department of comparative educational policy of RUDN – UNESCO department.

Since March, 2005 till present (on January 16, 2013) – the rector of RUDN (it is chosen in 2005, it is re-elected in 2010).

Political and public work

February, 1987 – December, 1989 – the secretary of party committee of Peoples' Friendship University.

It was twice elected the deputy of the Moscow Council (1987-1993), was the chairman of the permanent commission of the Moscow Council on the international relations – the member of Presidium of the Moscow Council.

Degrees, ranks, achievements

1986 – protected the doctoral dissertation at Mathematical institute of V.A. Steklov of Academy of Sciences of the USSR in the specialty 1/1/01 – "the mathematical analysis".

1987 - the academic status "professor of department of the mathematical analysis" is given.

The author more than 240 scientific and scientific and methodical works, including 30 monographs, two of which are translated and published by the American Mathematical society in the USA.

Knows French also English languages.
