Leroy Merlin uses Varonis for audit of IT infrastructure

2020: Implementation of systems for monitoring of file servers and users

The Varonis company, one of representatives of the world market of security and analytics of data, completed the project on deployment of systems for monitoring of file servers and users in Leroy Merlin company, the large international retailer. It became known on October 12, 2020. Solutions were implemented at the central office of the company and two shops of network in Moscow. Setup and industrial system deployment occupied only three working days.

Varonis implemented in Leroy Merlin the solution DatAdvantage which shows a picture of use of information flows within diverse IT infrastructure and Data Classification Engine, helping to classify confidential data in places of their storage, locally and in cloud services.

The department of information security was faced by a task to bring order to access rights to the large volume of the data which are stored on file servers and also to perform the analysis of actions of users with data. Besides, in the period of a pandemic the Leroy Merlin company actively developed the direction of online sales because of what became especially important to control lack of personal, payment and other confidential data on file resources of the company. The audit booked using solutions by Varonis showed that about 65% of confidential files were in open access earlier.

Our company needed the instrument of monitoring: we have a huge volume of unstructured data and to manually control them is problematic. Now this process is completely automated. Thus, implementation helped both to protect the commercial interests of business, and to increase safety of our clients. We have plans of scaling and expansion of the project for all infrastructure of the company — Alexander Limonov, the owner of the product "Information security" of Leroy Merlin company told.

In addition to DatAdvantage and Data Classification Engine in Leroy Merlin on "test drive" the full-function version of DatAlert which provides the behavioural analysis was provided, helps to reveal anomalies and to react to incidents and also DatAdvantage for Directory Services.

We were faced by a task to bring order and to create a transparent picture of the one who has data access and also to regulate storage locations of crucial information. It should be noted also that Varonis not only performs setup of a system, but also accompanies the project after implementation. Also our command trained the staff of Leroy Merlin in work with a stack of the delivered solutions — Vladimir Vechirny, the lead Varonis system engineer in Russia noted.
