Biometric systems of accounting of working time
The time recording is one of fixed assets of personnel management in most the large companies. Besides, up-to-date data about an amount of time, carried out in a workplace, often form the basis of payrolls. One more function of a time recording – minimization of the hidden costs of the employer, for example, unauthorized daily lengthening of a lunch break by the employee for 15 minutes costs to the employer in a month as one paid vacation day. The world market of the biometric systems in 2012 reached of $7.56 billion, and by 2015, according to forecasts of Visiongain company, it will make about a half of this market to $15 billion make the solutions for the "civil" sector applied in the companies of trade, banks, organizations of a public sector and educational institutions, in the industry[1]. By estimates of analysts of GIA, by 2017 the volume of this market will be $16.47 billion.
Why biometrics? Experts of NucleusResearch counted that implementation of biometric systems of accounting of working time provides annual economy up to $ dollars 800 counting on one employee, i.e. for the company with the state more than 1 thousand people this amount is nearly $1 million a year. The efficiency of biometric systems of accounting of working time is demonstrated also by experience of the world companies. For example, the network of McDonald's fast food restaurants which implemented a biometric system of accounting of working time in Venezuela could save more than 20% of the wages fund.
In Russia the problem of control and a time recording more than is relevant. According to the research Klerk.ru, 41% of Russians are late for work regularly, 32% allow rare delay and only 24% are always punctual[2]
According to a research of the Russian analytical Biometrics.ru[3], in Russia the biometric systems of working time enjoy the greatest popularity in retail (23.0%) and the service industry (24.3%). Also considerable share is occupied production (19%) and medical (7.8%) by the enterprises. Use of systems of accounting of working time on the basis of biometric data for office employees is the least reasonable. 55% of participants of the on-line poll organized by Biometrics.ru recognized control of physical access and a time recording the most perspective scope of technologies of biometrics.
Different types of readers for biometric identification
Alternative to the biometric systems are control systems of access, more hopes implemented based on proximity cards or electronic tags of RFID, however, biometric identifiers, and recently their cost became comparable to cards and tags that will provide biometrics in the future more mass application.
In Russia and abroad in the industry market, occupying more than a half of its volume, the solutions identifying users on fingerprints dominate. In a segment of a time recording and access control the mentioned trend is shown especially visibly: in mass scales both are made, and such systems whereas, say, recognition according to the drawing of veins or geometry of a hand still (or already) looks exotically are bought.

In Russia biometric solutions for identification of the employee and accounting of its working time are used quite widely as exclude a possibility of falsification. Such systems consist of directly scanning equipment and the software.
Data processing of the biometric systems is possible also within the HRM solution. In that case the integrated systems carry out the assessment of working time according to the planned diagram of each employee, allow to use the received dates for payroll.
The Russian organizations which implemented access control systems a lot more years back conduct search in replacement by new solutions in the field of access control and a time recording. Decisions are made for the purpose of implementation of already biometric systems with integrated solutions on a time recording, the personnel system and automatic transfer of results for payroll.
As practically all control systems of access are equipped with video surveillance systems, the systems of face recognition in this respect are perspective. Now this quite expensive solution and reliability of registration insufficient. Combination of a system of recognition of the person with the systems of infrared registration and other methods can be perspective for the purposes of a time recording too.
Among the most known biometric solutions for a time recording in the Russian market It should be noted a system "Timex" from "ARMO-Systems", BioLink BioTime from "BioLink Solutions", production BioSmart "Prosoft-Sistemy", "Sonda" from the company of the same name and Senesys (ChekTime) from "Elvis".
Among the Russian companies implementation of biometric systems of accounting of working time, for example, is implemented in retail networks "Perekrestok", "Marka", "ABK", "Ostrov", network of fashionable clothes and the Lacoste and "Randevu" footwear and computer shops OLDI.
Time recording in retail
- the main requirement to a time recording in trade — its corporate scale (this thesis was supported by 94% of representatives of business divisions and 96% of staff of IT services). Implementation of this requirement is many-sided: support of any number of shops and employees, territorial structure, organizational hierarchy; centralized operation; registration of employees without their departure in head office; existence of the web modules loaded directly from the browser and implementing different functions — for example, fixing of time of arrival/leaving. Here it is possible to refer such features of the system of a time recording as fault tolerance, reservation, capability of separate program and hardware components to work in a standalone mode (we will tell, at failures in communication lines) [4];
- the second place in the priority list was taken by reliability of a time recording (92% and 70% respectively). In this plan the example of foreign retailers is characteristic: so, the Turkish supermarkets Carrefour refused cards, and the Chinese retail network of One Look clothes — PIN codes; preference was given in both cases to scanning of fingerprints. Such approach is natural: employees exchange maps, codes, passwords, and the fingerprint is unique for each person and does not give in to alienation, and biometric system of accounting of working time provides reliable management information;
- "bronze" at the requirement of system compatibility of a time recording and other IT solutions which are already operated in retail (72% and 84%). Here two main measurements are selected: integration with corporate CRM ERP, the personnel and managerial systems, including 1C Axapta, SAP ERP HCM and also presence at a system of accounting of working time of free open Application Programming Interface (API);
- along with the listed strategic tasks also tactical steps are defined. They are that with implementation of a biometric system of accounting of working time in present difficult conditions it is impossible to hesitate: its implementation saves up to 31% of wage fund
