Eternus LT140

On January 18, 2019 the company Fujitsu provided system of data storage Fujitsu ETERNUS LT140 which simplifies process of accomplishment and management backup and archiving of corporate data. attacks programs racketeers backup copies of data And were stored in a case which were created separately before attack commission, can be used for recovery of information on the timepoint preceding the beginning of the attack, allowing to carry out recovery and to avoid data loss.

DWH of Fujitsu Eternus LT140

The attacks of programs racketeers cause damage to both the commercial, and state organizations. The IDC analytical company warns that constantly growing amounts of data which store the companies become more and more attractive purpose for hackers. Forced disconnection from network breaks daily work of the companies, and recovery after the attacks of programs racketeers requires a lot of time and means, not to mention undermining reputation, noted in Fujitsu.

As consider in Fujitsu, only one e-mail containing the malware suffices in order that hackers could cipher all data which are stored on the computer. Therefore the company created a failsafe defense line: the solution for the automated regular backup of data, crucial for business. When the ciphered backup copies are stored separately, malefactors cannot get access to them that creates the last defense line from programs racketeers and other malware. Systems on the basis of the magnetic tape create the reliable, checked and cost-efficient solution for storage on the alienable carrier, the organization of the second level of storage and long-term archiving, the producer claims.

According to the statement of the producer, the ETERNUS LT140 system represents model within family of DWH ETERNUS and is a scalable and flexible solution for creation of infrastructure of storage of the small and average size. It allows to implement strategy for effective and long-term data protection and disaster recovery. ETERNUS LT140 is a tape system which integrates in itself the high speed of work of the corporate level of the LTO-8 technology created based on industry standards and modular design for satisfaction of quickly growing needs for storage, backup and archiving of data. Fujitsu ETERNUS LT140 allows the companies to increase capacity for data storage as required due to increase in quantity of cartridges with a tape and drives. It supports capacity to 8.4 PB of data.

The high level of automation and simplicity of operation allow to install the ETERNUS LT140 systems at remote offices at which there are no qualified technical specialists, claim in Fujitsu. The provided system is compatible to the LTFS file system (Linear Tape File System) and supports the graphical interface for work with the stored folders and files that provides a simple information access, as well as at storage on the hard drive or the flash drive. The LTO-8 technology with support of hardware encryption increases the level of protection and allows to fulfill the requirements of regulating authorities. According to the producer, development differs in high capacity, high speed of work and low cost of data storage. ETERNUS LT140 supports the WORM protocol (Write Once, Read Many) that means that data are stored in a nonerasable and not re-recorded format.

"The attacks of programs racketeers and other malware have a negative impact not only on a goodwill of the companies, but also cause the expenses connected with forced long idle time which can happen at any time. Offline storage of the ciphered data on a tape is the simple solution for preserving of access to crucial information at any time and allows the companies to recover quickly data from the backup copy and to continue work after the attacks of malefactors. Tape libraries of high capacity should be an integral part of any strategy working by the rule "3-2-1": it is necessary to have, at least, three copies of data, to store two backup copies on different carriers and to store one copy independently".

As noted in Fujitsu, ETERNUS LT140 is economic and energy efficient development as a storage system of the second level which is compatible to family of systems for data protection of Fujitsu ETERNUS CS.

The Fujitsu ETERNUS LT140 system will be available in EMEIA region since February, 2019. Cost depends on a configuration.

2018: Support of LTO 8 technology

On May 21, 2018 Fujitsu announces that now the family of storage systems of ETERNUS LT supports technology of tape drives of the last generation LTO-8. These drives are, as a rule, intended for long-term archiving and data backup. In comparison with the previous generation they support twice bigger amount of data. Now tape libraries ETERNUS LT can store up to 30 TB condensed data on one cartridge. It simplifies creation of backup copies which will be locally stored. Such solution will help to save integrity and availability of data, crucial for business, even in case of cyber attacks.

The companies even more often are attacked by malefactors therefore they can lose important data. One of the most dangerous threats is implementation of the programs racketeers ciphering corporate information and requiring the redemption for a key to the blocked data. The attacks such become more and more sophisticated, and infection of systems occurs for read seconds. Therefore the companies which underwent cyber attack virus- encoder risk to suffer losses which elimination can take weeks or even months. Taking into account it, the rule of backup "3-2-1" becomes very relevant. It is necessary to have not less than three copies of data: store two backup copies on different carriers and one – it is autonomous. Crucial data for work of business need to be stored separately, in encrypted form. It will serve as a reliable guarantee data protection from network attacks.

Thanks to the last update, the tape Fujitsu ETERNUS LT systems allow to create high-scalable and cost-efficient solutions for backup. The hardware technology of autonomous enciphering increases security and provides compliance to regulatory requirements. The ETERNUS LT systems correspond to a big range of requirements imposed to data storage including long-term archiving, disaster recovery and the automated backup. All models of tape libraries ETERNUS LT support the WORM protocol, and data are stored in a nonerasable and not re-recorded format.

Fujitsu also announces support of LTO-8 technology solutions for data protection of Fujitsu ETERNUS CS – ETERNUS CS200c, ETERNUS CS800 and ETERNUS CS8000.

2016: Updating of Fujitsu ETERNUS LT

On February 1, 2016 the Fujitsu company provided updating of tape storage systems of Fujitsu ETERNUS LT based on Linear Tape Open (LTO) technology. These systems provide inexpensive, scalable and reliable long-term data storage on a tape, for example, together with recently left hardware and software system Fujitsu ETERNUS CS200c S2/CS800 S61. Thanks to new technology of the tape drives LTO-7 duration of backup is considerably reduced, even in case of copying of amounts of data of terabyte scale (2.7 TB per hour by the tape drive LTO-7), and the general capacity of a system increases in 2.4 raza2.

The ETERNUS LT family offers the hardware encryption of data allowing to raise the security level and to provide compliance to regulatory requirements. Whereas all ETERNUS LT systems independently cipher backup copies of data by means of hardware encryption for the tape drive LTO, the ETERNUS LT260 system generates encryption keys and manages them in library without costs for use of software of backup or needlessly in additional servere3. For the satisfaction of the raised regulatory requirements all ETERNUS LT systems support the WORM function (write once, read many).

2015: Eternus LT260 reached peta-scale

On July 6, 2015 the Fujitsu company announced release of tape library ETERNUS LT of the increased capacity for 350% - to peta-scale and adding of improvements in it for data storage security.

A system, according to representatives of vendor - the optimal choice as a tape part of storage of the unified system of data protection of Fujitsu ETERNUS CS8000.

The tape library ETERNUS LT260 reflects the strategy of providing to customers of Fujitsu of the business focused technological solutions for DPC. It provides a stock of space for backup and archiving to the organizations using the automation equipment for data storage on the basis of tape LTO technology. A system can be developed with a uniform key and be controlled encryption keys for the different devices which are a part of DPC.

ETERNUS LT260 supports the standard of the protocol of interaction of KMIP for enciphering key exchange in network. Function will be available to customers of the ETERNUS LT260 systems free of charge until the end of 2015, at the order from July 1 to December 31, 2015.

For additional protection of investments the architecture with horizontal scaling of tape library ETERNUS LT260 allows to add up to six expansion units and it is easy to increase the capacity and system performance. For July 6, 2015 the tape library ETERNUS provides the maximum volume of 3.5 petabytes for storage of condensed data and allows to increase performance at backup and archiving to 60 TB data per hour.

The ETERNUS LT260 system can be broken into several independent libraries, servicing different application environments in parallel without investments in alternative tape libraries. Such scaling does not incur in itself the hidden costs for activation or the needs for the additional areas.

Fujitsu ETERNUS LT260 is available to the order. The prices vary depending on the region and system configuration.

2014: Tape library ETERNUS LT260

On October 8, 2014 – Fujitsu submitted the version of the tape library Fujitsu ETERNUS LT combining high performance with exclusively high density of resources of storage, with a possibility of expansion of capacity to 1 petabyte. It does it by an optimal solution both for short-term backup of information, and for longer archived data storage. Being a new global flagman solution within family of tape libraries Fujitsu ETERNUS LT for the companies of small and medium business, new LT260 model allows to meet their growing requirements.

Tape solutions still provide the cost efficiency, best in the industry, for long-term storage and archiving of data. Taking into account the strategy of Fujitsu on providing to customers the business focused technological solutions for DPC the new tape library Fujitsu ETERNUS LT260 provides a stock of an extra space for backup and archiving of data to the organizations using the automation equipment based on tape LTO technology for storage of the information.

ETERNUS LT260 has horizontally scalable construction – it means that when adding the second tape module (option) system capacity instantly increases from 80 to 160 compartments. As the latest tape cartridges allow to store 6.25 TB condensed data, at a full load the data capacity of new tape library of the average level of Fujitsu ETERNUS can be expanded to 400 TB not condensed data that corresponds to 1 petabyte of condensed data. Backward compatibility is also a standard opportunity that allows ETERNUS LT260 to work with all supported generations of LTO technology.

As well as all tape libraries ETERNUS LT, the new ETERNUS LT260 model supports the solutions reducing costs on management of big data archives such as automation, consolidation and simplification of processes of data protection and also the possibilities of archiving reducing intervention and errors of the operator. Besides, it eliminates need of deep immersion in archives for administration of libraries as tools of remote control and diagnostics are fixed functions.

2013

The Fujitsu company announced in March, 2013 that now tape libraries ETERNUS LT thanks to technology Linear Tape-Open, LTO-6, provide the maximum capacity and speed of data recovery from the backup copy or from archive at much lower cost of carriers, than in systems containing only disk memory devices. The companies implementing the strategy of the mixed data media will be able to use advantages of tape drives further. Being independent of the capital equipment and, therefore, impregnable for destructive viruses or the Trojan programs and also steadier against failures, than disk arrays, tape drives often are safer means of data storage. Due to the lack of any restrictions for data storage volumes in any infrastructure of a tape, as a rule, are more flexible choice for the companies of small business.

Thanks to automation, ease of use and a possibility of remote control operation of these systems does not demand any special skills from personnel. The drives LTO-6 are capable to contain to 2.5 Tb given without application of a compression or 6.25 Tb of condensed data. In comparison with the previous generation of LTO-5 drives the new LTO-6 technology allows more than to double capacity (when using compression) and to increase performance by 40%.
